Mariscos Ensenada 2 — Restaurant in Midvale

OK, first let me say the food was quite good, and portion size was very generous. A little pricey, but tasty and filling. I had the crab enchilada, filled with giant chunks of crab meat and smothered in cheese and a deep red smoky enchilada sauce. The wife had the shrimp chimichanga. It was huge. HUGE! Stuffed to the gills with shrimp and grilled fajita veggies. So delicious. So why only three stars? The place smelled like a geriatric care center. Not sure what kind of cleaning products they are using in there, but the odor was overpowering. No wonder we were the only people in the place. Had I not had a hankering for south of the border seafood, I would have abandoned ship too. I had to ask to be seated at a booth closer to the kitchen, hoping to mask the urine cake smell. Well awkward. Initially I tried calling many times to order to go, no answer at all. Called the other location to ask if this one was open and they said “I guess so, probably” hmmm ok great help-sarcasm-. Drove to the location, waited for a while since there was a big group paying what I imagine was a delicious meals check ($182!) , patiently texted while waiting, checked my social media’s etc. The group leaves, awesome I’m next! Walked to the register/counter hoping and or expecting to be asked what I want, the lady says to me “excuse me” as she walks pass me. Absolutely INSANELY great food! The MRS. And I enjoyed every bite of it. The portion sizes are enormous, the food quality was superb. We both were stuffed by the end of our date and there wasn't anything left to take home, and like I said the portions are huge so that's saying something. The are bi lingual here so even if English isn't your strong suite you can always fall back on Spanish. The server that took our order was very professional and made it feel like home.
