The folks at Brookside are some of the nicest and most professional people I have met in the cycling community! Let me start out by saying we drove over 350 miles to buy a bike from them.
We live in southeastern Virginia, and were looking for a Trek Checkpoint ALR 5. Our local Trek dealer was unable to find the right size (52cm) and did not seem very interested in reaching out to other bike shops. After a day of calling bike shops on the east coast, I stumbled across Brookside and spoke with Daniel. He was very professional and confirmed they did indeed have the bike we needed. I put down a deposit over the phone and planned to drive up the following weekend to pick it up. Although it was a long drive, we love riding in PA, and the bike shop is located on a rail-trail, so we looked forward to the trip.
When we arrived on Sat morning we were very impressed with the shop. It was clean, bright, and had a great selection of accessories. We met with Daniel and he had the bike all ready to go. Daniel was great at getting the bike adjusted and ready to roll. He also gave some great recommendations on places to ride in the area, along with things to do and places to eat. We had a great day riding in the rolling hills around Mifflinburg!
We also noticed many locals coming in and out of the bike shop. It was clear from the interaction that Brookside is not just a bike shop, but a part of the community. In our case it was definitely worth the drive for the level of service that we received. Plus, there are some GREAT places to ride around...
Read moreI found this place through the Fuji website when I was looking for a local (to central PA) location to buy a bike I'd tested elsewhere. I called and asked if they carried the model, and they did, so I drove out that weekend to check the place out. It's a bit off the road, but it's a family owned place that sits on a farm (you're going the right way when you see fields and farm houses). I had a great experience - I tested the bike again and still loved it, so I was able to buy it that day. The guys put a kickstand on it for me, Daniel took me around the shop to show me some accessories I might be interested in and what the pros and cons of each thing were. Definitely not pushy at all, totally about sharing information. He was also a saint showing me how to take the front wheel off and get it back on (my car hatch was the wrong style for the type of rack they carried) in order to get the bike in my car. He went through it like three times with me, and I was able to do it when I got home, so it was a successful lesson! I was riding around my neighborhood that day, and the following day I took it on a trail ride where it performed exactly as I hoped. I will be bringing the bike back in a few weeks for my free tune up after I've put some miles on it. The shop is 10 minutes from one of the state's best breweries, so we'll be dropping the bike off and heading to Rusty Rail while we wait for...
Read moreFunny times we live in. With so many things in short suppy I had almost given up on finding the new Trek SLR bike I wanted before 2023. Then during an internet search it popped up. The exact model and build in a beautiful blue paint. John at Brookside Bikes could not have been more helpful. We spoke 3 times on the phone. He had me measure the geometry of my current bike to make certain the Trek was the correct size, and sent me a bunch of links for specs and photos. He gave me full confidence that the 7 hours of driving to there and back would be worth the effort. When I arrived the next day John greeted me and spent all the time we need to confirm everything. The tires had been switch out to the size I preferred, and the seat adjusted for me before I arrived. While the pedals and bottle cages were being installed by one of the tecnicians in their spotless, fully exposed repair shop, I had a chance to speak with some of the other customers. A father and son getting a repair. A lifelong cyclist who rides both road and pedal assist. This is a friendly, comfortable and capable gem of a local bike store. I wish they were closer to my home. I highly recommend Brookside Bikes and John to anyone looking for a new bike, accessories, or...
