As I continue to decorate my sailboat and ocean themed family room, I needed some unique items for emphasis. I came across the name, Big Ship Salvage, in a decorating magazine and went directly to their website. The items listed were vast and varied giving me several ideas. From nautical lights, flags, life vests and other antiques, I felt like I found a treasure chest. The website is clean, inviting and held my interest for an hour as I looked at so many items before coming to a decision. The items I ordered; the Fairless Jim-Buoy Life Preserver and an authentic nautical flag, after delivery, looked just as they did on the website. This family-owned business is expansive and very friendly. When I called to place an order, Liz, a team member, was so kind and helpful. She provided whatever information I needed and never made me feel as though I was “bothering” her. In fact, her wonderful customer service caused me to order more items. I purchased a brass engine-order telegraph from Big Ship Salvage and—apart from being impressed that they even had a piece that was exactly what I was looking for—I was much impressed by the professionalism of this outfit. Jim, the co-owner, was outgoing, knowledgable and efficient. I had many questions and concerns about what was, for me, a sizable purchase: He responded patiently to all of them. A large and heavy piece of equipment arrived in just a few days, fastidiously packed. It's also clear to me that someone took time to clean and polish this piece, as I doubt that marine salvage looks this pristine when it's pried off a ship. I have "updated" my home lighting, and thrown in an original hatch cover, with brass passage lights,for the interior, brass navigation lights for the front exterior, and an aluminum passage light for the patio. The items far exceed my highest hopes, and expectations, and the convenience of the added electrical updates exponentially enhances the usability of the electrics.
