I visited three different shelters yesterday. One in Tracy, one in Manteca and this one in Milpitas.
If I were an animal, I would want to live here. There are volunteers everywhere that are more than willing to help you. I lost one of my dogs just before Christmas. I am now ready. To look for another one. These animals are not kept in cages. They have private rooms. They are all extremely clean. Each pet has a privacy Hut several blankets to cuddle on toys to play with and plenty of food and water. They're not your typical cement floor. They have a type of rubbery coating on them, which I'm sure makes it easy to keep clean. And as I was being guided through the viewing area, I had a chance to go in the back where the general public doesn't normally get to go. In the kitchen area there were dozens of clean. Water and food bowls draining on the counter. There is hand sanitizer everywhere So that you can sanitize your hands between visits with different pets. And don't get me started on the cats playroom! There's even a special place for rabbits. They have their own store, and Grooming Center. There are several fenced-in dog parks. Everywhere you look there are recognition plaques and stepping stones and that sort of thing to pay tribute to the many people that donate their time and their money. They even have their own medical facility there. Where they do shots, chipping and spay neuter. I was completely impressed. I would highly recommend a tour through this place, even if you're not looking to adopt at this time. Everyone needs to see the good work they do there. I also noticed a lot of stray cats. I believe they have a program where they trap them. They give them Medical Care shots. Spay neuter etcetera. And if I'm not mistaken, they make a small notch in their ear. Just so that they know that that is a pet that cannot reproduce. They're just lounging around the property. They must feed them. Even the feral cats are happy there. This place is truly amazing. I only took one picture while I was there. This is Molly. She's very sweet And ready for her...
Read moreI came to this location a few weeks ago with a possible lost cat to get it checked for a microchip. They did in fact check the cat for one, which he did not, but were incredibly unhelpful afterwards. The young lady who initially helped us out and gave us a carrier box to put the cat in, and was the one who checked for a chip, was very nice and accommodating. It was her supervisor, an older woman, that we had an issue with. We were trying to explain to her our situation and why we decided to take the cat with us but she shut us down completely. Not listening to what we had to say at all. Completely dismissing the fact that we told her that the collar we had on the cat was one that WE had put on him and not one that was on him when we found him initially. Telling us that we basically kidnapped someoneâs cat and to put him back where we found him. Mind you, during this time there was terrible weather out and the following days after. Which is the reason why we took him in in the first place, afraid that he wouldnât be able to find shelter or go back to a possible owner. We thought it was the right thing to do, but apparently to this woman, it wasnât. We also came here with hopes that they could help us try and find an owner, check if anyone has been looking for a lost cat, all of that but did not do that at all. We were only told to post about having found the cat on different forums like âPawBoostâ and so on, which we did immediately and still have yet to hear back from anyone. We have grown incredibly fond of the little guy and will be considering adopting him if no one...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I adopted a dog named Horton on March 25th, 2023 from HSSV. They claimed he was healthy but when we took him home we noticed right away there was something wrong since he was occasionally coughing.
First we thought he was just adjusting to a new environment but got worried so we decided to take him to a veterinarian on March 27th, 2023 where they did a general exam and noticed his lungs were a bit raspy. They wanted to perform x-rays for his lungs but our pet insurance hasn't gone through yet, so we decided to just pay for the antibiotics and cough tablets at the time.
He seemed very lethargic for a 4 month old puppy, and we wanted to reach a diagnosis so we decided to take him to a different veterinarian on March 29th, 2023. This is where they decided to do a PCR test to check for viral infections and xrays to check for his lungs again. The x-rays of his lungs came back fine and they told us they would contact us in 3 days for the PCR test results.
Today March 31st, 2023 they called us back with results they have never seen before. Our puppy that we adopted from HSSV was diagnosed with 4 different viral infections. These infections consisted of Canine Distemper Virus, Boardetella Bronchiseptica, Canine Parainfluenza Virus, and Canine Pneumovirus.
We've also contacted HSSV for help in the span of these few days of having our puppy and all they can say is they can't help us because we signed a waiver and that...
