I tend to choose my shops by reputation. This business seems to have a solid reputation online. I picked it over other highly rated shops for the location and because it appeared to be more geared toward Black clientele. I walked in with high standards because I’m used to working with old school, experienced barbers who tend to be more technical than trendy. There’s no doubt in my mind that the gentleman who cut my hair is great at what he does. He gave me a decent haircut, but it is not the one I wanted. Please consider my suggestions.
Please use guards if a lady asks you to. I wanted to cut my hair down slowly, so not to go too low. What I did not want to happen happened. Now my hair is too short for my comfort.
Don’t be afraid to communicate. I realize my request may have been a little different or difficult to understand. After a while he started to ask questions. More clarification along the way would have helped the situation.
Please try to listen. I became frustrated because it felt like I was not being listened to.
Please be patient. A $35 dollar haircut ($45 w/ tip) in Milwaukee deserves time and attention.
Please do things to make your customers feel more comfortable. I asked to see photos before sitting in anyone’s chair. The person they paired me with did not have his phone with him. Nobody else stepped in with examples of work to reassure me. Perhaps I should have walked out.
Nobody asked my name, introduced themselves, asked how I found the business or behaved as though they wanted to gain a new loyal customer. I will not take it personal, but it was noticed. On the way out one gentleman thanked me for patronizing the business which I appreciated.
I will likely continue traveling back to NYC to see my barber, but this review is not meant to discourage anyone from choosing this place for a haircut.
