Normally, I have an okay experience here. I bought dog food from this Menards in September, and the food was recently recalled for salmonella. I stopped in at this Menards today (with the original receipt) to see if the food I purchased was part of the recall. I had to explain this at least three times to the person at the desk who was trying to assist me. He finally called a manager, and I explained this situation again. After verifying that the dog food I purchased was part of the recall, he asked if I had any left and if I'd brought it with me. I explained to the manager that I did still have the food left, but it was in a large container because it's a 40-lb bag. He advised I bring it all back to the store so they can throw it in a bag. Every other place I know that sells the brand of food being recalled advised that the dog food just be thrown out and the receipt brought in for a full refund. Further, those other retailers proactively told their customers there was a recall. Menards did absolutely nothing to address this proactively, and it's a further inconvenience that I have to drag several pounds of dog food back to their store just so they can throw it out. I think they could have handled this in a more professional manner.
Update: Before dragging all the food back to the store, I called the front-end manager, who confirmed I needed to bring the food in. Since I'd partially purchased the food with a rebate, I asked how that worked and told her I no longer had the original food bag. She told me I'd get a refund for the balance and in-store credit for the rebate portion. Fair enough. I dragged all the remaining dog food back, along with the original receipt. I again had to explain the recall to the same person I explained it to three times prior. Rather than giving me a refund, they gave me in-store credit for the full amount. This recall was not my choice, so I should have at least received the remainder of the balance in cash to do with of my choosing rather than being forced to spend it all in their sh!tty establishment, but the manager acted like he just couldn't be bothered with having to actually think this through. The drama for just trying to return a bag of contaminated, recalled food is enough to make me never want to step foot in the Brown Deer location again. I will drive the half-hour to West Bend if it means the staff there is...
Read moreJohn Menard's personality shines in his stores. I recently read a Milwaukee publication with an article about John. To sum it up, it didn't have a whole lot of positive things to say. From his militant methods to being greedy to being an extortionist. I am a contractor, I find very little in his store to be high quality products, middle of the road at best. The only products I purchase from Menards are the basics, studs, drywall, etc. Things I need to be true quality, I look elsewhere. Not to mention his employees. Most I find have no clue about the departments they service. One time I was looking for one little plumbing part. They had me going in circles for an hour. I finally said the hell with them and I found it myself within 10 minutes. They would have been better suited for fast food. Call me crazy, but if you gave your people some basic training on the departments they tend, it would increase efficiency. Granted, training is an expense. But at the rate they find products, it would save/make money in the end. Another time I was loading my truck, and I was struggling with some bulky items. I turned around when I had finished, and there was two employees staring at me, watching me struggle. Really? Obviously they weren't to busy and not even a "can we help?".There's some fantastic customer service for you. If those had been my employees, they may have been fired on the spot or at least disciplined. It's to bad the contractors service was nixed. Those guys at least had a clue. All in all if your looking for cheap products, this is the place. Don't expect anything beyond that though. You will be disappointed. The reason I only gave two stars, is that you can find good prices on basic products. Although, maybe I live on a different planet. I was taught the principle "that you can have the greatest products in the world at the lowest prices, but without great customer service, you...
Read moreI've been a steady customer of Menards ever since I bought my house about six years ago. Until now. I ordered some doors online 05/01/2020 and had an expected ship date of 05/14/2020. 05/14 came and went so I called the vendor and each time I called I was told the order would ship by the end of the week (I was told this three times on three separate occasions). I called earlier last week and was told by the CS rep that she could see that everything was completed and that it would surely ship by the end of that week. I called at the end of last week and the vendor told me that they are in fact waiting on parts to complete this order and it will now not ship for at least two more weeks.
I sent an email to Menards' customer service last week requesting to cancel my order. The first reply from them advised that they would reach out to the vendor and would follow up with me. I just received two more emails from Menards confirming that the order is canceled.
Not once in those three emails did the customer service team acknowledge my frustrations. No apology for my inconvenience. I've worked in customer service capacities in the past and the FIRST thing I did with an upset customer was acknowledge their issue then apologize for the inconvenience and then let them know I would take care of them.
Menards' customer service team woefully lacks any kind if...
