I've always wanted to stop by this establishment since I've always past it while doing errands. Recently I did while I waited for my car to be repaired. I haven't been to a coin shop in over 50 years and recently resumed my childhood hobby. After perusing the shop for a few minutes the owner asks "May I help you""? I said sure as I pulled out my tube of Kennedy Half Dollar errors for him to examine. Without looking he says they are not worth anything. You would think he would say sure great let's take a look. He continues to wax poetic...I don't know how people who sell error coins can sleep at night. I said I don't agree with you. It's the free market system...Whatever the market bears is the value of the coin. I attempted to inform him of my greatest discovery a half dollar made out of a quarter planchet. I knew this because I noticed a vast weight and sound difference. I was looking for a value for this coin. I told him my online research confirmed my suspicions since the coin weight around 8 grams vs normally 11 grams. He then lectured me that collectors refer to penny weights when it comes to coins. I said I would agree with you that penny weight would be used to refer to precious metals but have to disagree with you when discussing coins. He then informed me proudly that he has been doing this for 50 years and he knows everything. He then invites me to his monthly coin show in Parsippany. He proudly informs me it is the largest show in the area. He says to me he would be more than happy to introduce me to buyers of error coins that rents table at his show. The same people he condemned earlier for having a conscience for selling "non valued" coins. Perhaps he should show a little empathy for someone who takes time to visit. They say you never get a second chance on first impressions. Good luck on your future endeavors. I'm surely staying away from this...
Read moreI had couple/few coins to sell, not doing anything with them, figured use the cash towards some home maintenance. Did some quick research on the coins and eventually paid the shop a visit rather than do the eBay thing, if we can't agree on a number I shake his hand and I go on my merry way. BTW the eBay thing especially with something like coins, not for the weak of heart, heard a few 'good stories' and I'd use eBay as a LAST RESORT (and remember those final value fees add up!) Even if your honest with your item and description they'll side with the buyer and screw the seller in a heartbeat. ANYWAY I must say the offer I was given was fair, very fair actually. Good place to deal with, and there's plenty of stuff for...
Read moreI found Roxbury Coin Investment Service (R.C.I.S.) via a Google search. Their excellent reviews from satisfied customers convinced me to call them, and I spoke with Damon regarding some gold coins and silver bars that I wanted to sell. After a brief conversation he offered to buy my collection. I was very impressed with his honest approach, which was confirmed upon arriving at the store. Damon offered me a fair price based on the spot price of gold and silver, which I accepted. He filled out the necessary documents for the transaction and wired the larger portion of the funds to my bank account and gave me a check for the rest. I highly recommend R.C.I.S., and plan to do more business with them in the...
