I’m an avid supporter and shopper at the farmers markets in my county and neighboring counties. Many have shut down for the year, but i found this one on Facebook and the next town over from mine about a 20-minute drive.
The advertisement stated this: Our Farmers Market is the place to be on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 7:00. We have fresh, local produce and so many great vendors. Our apple pie contest will start at 5:30. Hope to see you at The Market Pavilion, located at 418 East Main Street (directly behind Delta Pharmacy).
I arrived at 3pm, and not many people and there were vendors already in place. To my disappointment, there were only two very small produce vendors, with a limited supply of produce. I could tell that on one table most of the produce was store bought, just by looking at it and seeing store stickers/labels on the fruits and some vegetables. Not a good sign. Some vegetables were withering and cold to the touch on this one table. On the other table, I believe that they did come out of some type of garden, so I did purchase about $20 dollars worth of vegetables. But not the normal amount that I would usually get at the farmers markets that I do patronize regularly. These were the only two tables that had produce. I was very disappointed!
The rest of the vendors were baked goods, which I counted three tables. The rest were arts and crafts, a bible literature table, dog treats, candles and oils, a small petting zoo, plants/flowers and three food trucks. I’m being supportive at best, and giving this a generous rating of 3 since it’s October. I’ll try my next visits next year in the late spring and summer months, and hopefully I’ll get to see more farmers, growers...
