Foodland — Local services in Monessen

Even though I don't live in Monessen, this is my favorite grocery store. I am disabled, the parking lot is flat, which helps a lot. They have a little bit of everything in the store and it's small enough for me to navigate. Their hot deli food is good, best fried chicken in the valley. Their cold deli meats, cheeses and sides are great, always fresh. Good prices on uncooked meat. The only thing that needs a little help is the green grocer section. If you buy lettuce, cabbage, spinach, look it over good, sometimes it is not so fresh. Also check bagged salads for expiration dates. The employees are friendly and accommodating, I enjoy talking with them as most have a very nice attitude. I was sorry to see the self checkouts in there. Those used to be someone's job. Clean market. Only one in Monessen so most people shop there for certain sales. Other than that the prices fluctuate and can be very pricey especially when certain holidays come around. ie: mayonnaise is almost $8-10 at food land, If you don't have transportation to go to super Walmart across town where it's $4-6 your stuck paying high prices for popular products. People do enjoy the pick 5 there but again I question the quantity and quality of certain meats. Other than that it is convenient, a smaller market and well maintained. Way to expensive why other stores are a lot cheaper i had an employee tell me they raise the prices all the time just pennies at a time so you don't really notice.our town got a lot of people that don't have a lot of money no need for these high prices.i heard its the owner some people said he is pretty greedy takes advantage of the people in our small town because its the only food store in it.go to save a lot you can get more then twice as much we have 4 kids we usually spend a 1000 bucks a month and it would last all month if we go to foodland does not we tried it.so if u waunt to wast your hard earned money go...
