Superb! Let me preface my review noting that I am a past Haunted Attraction owner and have been associated with the industry for 20+ years. Castle Blood has been on my "bucket list" of excellent haunts for years but I finally attended this year with my family. I have attended nearly 60 different haunted attractions over the years and have seen some truly amazing ones. I would have to say I'm pretty hard to impress at this point. Castle Blood didn't disappoint. Start to finish it was a great experience! We purchased online timed tickets so we didn't have to wait as long to get in. This season with the Covid restrictions made the queue lines a bit more complicated than normal but Boris outside did a great job keeping everyone distanced and on the straight and narrow! Love the building as it was a former Victorian style home and funeral parlor. Castle Blood is a bit different from the typical in your face "jump scare" kind of haunted house. It is more of a theatrical immersive walk through experience and part game. The actors have done an amazing job remembering their stories and lines, as well as ad-libbing where appropriate. The costumes, make-up, lighting and decor was amazing. You need to pay attention to the dialogue and remember certain names and phrases to obtain talismans and other items as you progress through the house. I found myself occasionally missing something important in the actors dialogue because I was enjoying looking around each room at all the details and decorations. Literally every inch of the place is detailed/decorated amazingly. You really feel immersed in the environment! I am a bit disappointed reading the handful of the negative reviews online. I think these are folks who didn't understand what kind of haunt Castle Blood was before they attended. I would heartily recommend Castle Blood to anyone. Even for those who don't typically like the scares in your average Haunted House. Yes they are different from the norm, but in a wonderful way! You can tell that a lot of thought, love, and care as well as blood, sweat, and tears have gone into the creation of this...
Read moreWe have been coming here for a few years now, and haven't missed any of their on or off season shows since we found them. This is not your typical jump scare, chase you with a chainsaw haunt. This is more of an interactive spooky play than a true haunted house. They curate a new theme every year and base the story around the theme. You have 3 specific talismans you need to aquire throughout the tour and you have to have kept the correct ones at the end to "win". There are a few jump scares scattered throughout to keep you on your toes. There are also some very simple "tasks" that you need to complete along the way - these are the Escape Room components of the tour. Keep in mind this is ultimately a haunted house, so they need to keep things moving to get everyone thru in a timely manner, that's why the tasks are so simple. Consider it an ultra light version of an Escape Room if you will! For anyone saying they were "rushed" thru the haunt, that's not even possible. Like I said, this is more of an interactive play than a haunt, so you have to spend a specific amount of time at each location throughout the tour. You aren't sent off on your own to go thru it at your own pace like most places. Anyone saying they were rushed is flat out lying, just sayin. This is our favorite haunted house because of how different and unique the experience is. They also have 3 other off season shows during the year: a family friendly Christmas show in December, a St. Batricks Day show in March, and Summerween in June. These off season shows only run for one weekend. The staff and cast are the nicest, friendliest people and we enjoy talking to them every time we stop. If you're looking for something different, give them a try! As they say at The Castle: cause chainsaws...
Read moreThis place is a blast. I look forward to going every year. All the actors are volunteers; most are from Douglas's school looking for experience, so they get really into their roles. Unlike most haunted houses meant to simply scare you, this place starts by telling you a story that you have to pay attention to carefully. You will need the information later at different points in the house. As you go room to room, you have to solve puzzles and answer questions, but be careful, sometimes they will purposely try to trip you up as you go. You have to pay attention to everything that is being said. There is also a good bit of macabre humor added in. The story and puzzle changes with every event. They also do a Christmas event. After you go through the house, you end up in a gift shop and they have lots of great stuff, so bring some extra money. This place also has daylight tours designed for children. The lights stay on and there are no scares. I think this is pretty kool. The owner is one of the actors and you will actually meet him at some point in the house. It is a little pricey but you can get tickets through Groupon which helps tremendously. This is a Halloween must! Just keep in mind that this involves lots of audience participation. Also large groups are a good idea. They take about ten through at a time. If you come by yourself or just 2 of you, you will be added to a group with other people. This can be fun, but it can also be a drag if you get lumped with people who are not paying attention. Occasionally individuals are singled out to do a task and can screw things up for the group if they do the wrong thing. Go, have fun, interact with the residents, be vocal; it's more fun for you...
