The Positive: Clean facilities. Friendly staff. A wide selection of films and showtimes. You canât complain about prices when they offer $5 movies on Tuesdays to members of AMC Stubs, which is a FREE program. (Regular matinee prices are somewhere around $7 and evening prices are about $9-10. Tickets are easily $3 more in the city, so we are really very spoiled out here in the country.)
The Negative: Although I have never found this to be a problem, several in my family have complained that the seats are uncomfortable. I donât go to the movies hoping to be dazzled by the facilities and dĂ©cor, but much of it does look dated. It seems like the whole place â from the bathrooms to the exterior could use some touch-ups or full-on renovations. If they installed the plush reclining chairs that fancier cinemas have in just one or two of their twelve theaters, Iâm confident people would pay extra for a more comfortable viewing experience.
The In-Between: Concessions are too pricey for my taste, but I wonât begrudge the cinema this. I can make it through a movie without the âextras.â And while I may be tight-fisted in this regard, Iâm grateful to the people who are willing to pay full price for popcorn, soda and candy. After all, a cinema is little more than a glorified candy shop. Since they only take a very small cut of the ticket sales, a cinema will live or die by its concession sales. I may not be willing to pay full price for concessions, but I salute the people who do! Thank you for keeping the cinema open...
Read moreWent there to see a Rifftrax Live event, was disappointed as usual. I live about halfway between this theater and the one on Bloomsburg. I usually go to Bloomsburg, unless the situation dictates otherwise. The seats in Selinsgrove do not recline. The seats and theater smell like body odor, and has for some time. They need to either replace or deep clean their seating. When the show started, they did not dim the lights in the theater. I called out to the front desk and told them. 10 minutes later, nothing. Lights were still on. I called again and spoke to a person who told me that someone had checked, and the lights were off. I told them I was IN THE THEATER and the lights were still on. A few moments later, a young woman came in and said those lights are always on. I disagreed, said they were much brighter than usual, and she left. 5 minutes later, THE LIGHTS DIMMED like they should have done since the beginning of the show! Going to this venue just reinforces my going to the Bloomsburg venue to see...
Read moreMediocre Pros: The staff is nice, the arcade is cool, the soda fountains offer a wide variety of drinks to enjoy, and the theaters are at least there so that you can watch the latest blockbusters. Cons: The theaters themselves need to be more clean. Spilled popcorn and greasy butter seems to always be on the floor. Tickets need to be cheaper for later showings. My biggest complaint is that before the movie in the commercials, there is a short segment that says to enjoy your experience at AMC and then cuts to weird, slow shots of people enjoying popcorn in red, leather seats that seem to be in a really neat theater. Reality here is the complete opposite. The seats are kind of worn down in certain theaters and uncomfortable, and the theaters just aren't as good as AMC...
