It was at her charming booth at the Montclair Jazz Festival that I discovered Sonali and knew immediately that I’d found a solution to the perennial challenge of scoring holiday gifts that are both exquisite and reasonably priced.

Fast forward a couple of months and I’m arriving at her home studio, having called ahead to find out what time(s) would be convenient. I am surrounded by a wonderful selection of garments produced in the most luxurious fabrics, by artisans from the Kashmir region from which she herself hails. There are gorgeous cashmere jackets and shawls and breathtakingly delicate pashminas as well as kurta separates and ‘twin-sets’ in the most luxurious silk. In addition, there is an extensive selection of accessories including handbags, scarves and jewelry to name but a few.

After less than an hour I have emerged with an initial haul of five items and, crucially, the promise of a call in a few days’ time when my host is expecting a shipment that she hopes will contain a cashmere cardigan in my mother’s favourite colour. Sonali is as good as her word and even texts me a picture of the calf-length item - in a glorious shade of vermilion - that she agrees to set aside for me.

By the time I return to pick up this gem I have made an ill-advised trip to Willowbrook Mall - with predictable results. So I seize the opportunity to buy a few more items and in one fell swoop eliminate all but three of the remaining names on my holiday list. The term home run feels like an under-statement!! .

In short, I cannot sing Sonali’s praises loud enough. Matched only by the solicitude she lavishes on her customers, the quality and unique character of her merchandise make a visit to her home studio a richly...

Grateful to have the opportunity to meet Sonali & her beautiful line of clothing at our local Museum. Hard to walk away without wanting to purchase 1 of everything.
