I have had my struggles with connecting with a vet clinic that understands my desire to help my pet. Either they mention shoulda, coulda, mistakes I've made due to lack of understanding my fur babies needs or, they'd shoot for the latest and greatest for their pockets. Sure they seemed concerned but seldom would I find one that would go out on a limb and try something less invasive to the pet or my wallet. And they'd show now urgency to help them or offer any suggestions until they could be seen! Twice now I have called in a panic with our best buddy Cooper, and last one to get my cats in so I could have current records to adopt another dog in need. Both times they have stayed on the phone listened to me LITERALLY sobbing as I was begging for someone to help me and my family member. Both times they didn't tell me how I could have prevented, or judge me for not acting sooner. Instead they got us in and concentrated on solutions. With cost in mind they tell you all the options, give THEIR recommendations, and don't show distain if you don't agree with that recommendations. They explain, listen, and giving it to you straight do as you wish. When our dog was in emense pain they listen as we hung on to what ifs and irrational hopes. Gave us time and never once told us we'd be putting him through hell if we chose denial instead of what was best. We made our decision based on the love for him. Instead of our wants. They helped us with compassion, empathy, honesty! I will forever be thankful and are my forever vet clinic! Front desk, to the vets, to the nurses. This is a place to see what dedication to animals, understanding to there human owners, and their role in helping us and our fur family live long lives together! We recently brought our semi-feral cat Toby to Monticello Veterinary Clinic for a sedated shave due to severe matting, and I was incredibly impressed with how affordable they were—by far the most reasonably priced of the four clinics I had contacted. For under $300, Toby was shaved, microchipped, and received two shots. The staff handled him well considering how anxious he is, and I’m so relieved he’s more comfortable now.

One thing I do wish had been handled differently: they discovered a large lump on the back of his head during the procedure but only mentioned it when I picked him up. I would have preferred a call while he was still sedated, so we could have addressed it then. I’m not sure if the lack of communication was due to a friend of mine handling the bill or some other reason, but it left me with questions.

That said, I’m grateful for the care Toby received and how much better he seems. Overall, I’d recommend them for their affordability and care—just hoping for more proactive...

Dr. Duffy and every member who works here are some of the most honest, caring & compassionate people. They truly do this for the animals and their pet parents, not for the money. We have taken all of our animal family members here dwarf rabbit to domestic cat & have never been anything other than impressed. Recently we had an emergency with one of our cats & had to take him to the emergency vet in Cedar Rapids. While I am thankful that there is someplace that in an emergency you can go, they do NOT hold a candle to staff at Monticello. I call the clinic on the morning of July 4th 2019 & was patched through to the on call vet & it was Dr. Duffy, who did not seem to be at all upset or bothered that he was getting a call on a holiday or his day off. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for this clinic my pets wouldn't get the level of care they do, nor would my family have total peace of mind when pets have to be taken in.
