Montrose Sporting Goods — Local services in Montrose

I’m incredibly disappointed with the timeliness and inefficiency of their gunsmith.

I am stationed overseas for the Military and had a friend take my rifle (he was taking care of it while I am away) to this establishment because of its reviews.

All I requested for services was a butt stock change (I had to special order the stock prior to match the wood of the rest of the gun) and a cleaning. I’ve had similar gunsmith work on other firearms done while stationed in Georgia and it would take a maximum of two weeks (even with dozens of customers ahead of me on a list).

It took this establishment two months from October 2024 to January 2025 to get around to the stock change. THEY BROKE THE STOCK!

So they ordered another stock that doesn’t match the wood of the front stock, then two months later the stock was changed and it was “ready”. The butt stock is now a different color than what I started with.

So my friend picked the rifle up, paid the fee and put it in his gun safe.

Upon returning from Europe on leave, I immediately wanted to shoot my rifle, brought it to the range and the gun does not fire and The safety selector switch does not function properly now.

I have owned firearms for 11 years, have had gunsmithing work done on 9 different firearms across 4 different states. This has been by far the worst experience out of all of them.

I was visiting Montrose with my family and decided that this would be the week I learned to fish. We found some old fishing poles at the rental house and headed over to Montrose Sporting Goods for our licenses and to get some fishing gear. They spent a lot of time with me, giving advice, helped us buy what we needed at an affordable price and sent us on our way.

The next day (having accidentally snapped a fishing pole) we returned to Montrose Sporting Goods to replace the pole and were again treated with kindness, good humor and given lots of good advice. They did not have what I was looking for but made a great effort to helping me find it, even going as far as to name other nearby gun shops that might have what I was looking for.
