Phifer Family YMCA — Local services in Morganton

OK, hating that I have to write this review but I’m going to be honest and open. I am very disappointed in the cleanliness over the year plus that we have been members there. The smell is unbearable of the sauna is unbelievable. The steam room also both in the men’s and the women’s and then I jump through the hoops because we are on a fixed income, Went through the hoops!!! jump through !!! not only did I deliver the paperwork in person I went back and triple checked to make sure that we had gotten our awards towards our account that was in May to my dismay on the 15th. I was charged $78 out of the Blue that’s not only disturbed my financial piece for over a week. I called and called and called and left messages and never to get a callback until I disputed it with my bank and then they couldn’t take the money anymore. That’s when I got a phone call back. I am beyond disappointed. I am disgusted and I’m so glad that I finally get to say this, especially after you hurt me...

Went today to check them out. I asked if they were in the Medicare program and instantly I was asked my name and birthday. Okay data miners usually try this tactic, I told him I was just checking out the facilities and he didn't need my birthday until I signed up, He sat back crossed his arms and said "well then I can't help you" I started to walk out then an instructor asked me if I wanted a tour, I did, and we went......What a great way to treat a potential customer, the guy behind the counter didn't like the fact that people have to protect their privacy these days....I will not give out personal information until I'm ready to purchase the item or service. Staff are wonderful. However, the facility is in need of serious upgrades. It is like stepping back into a gym in the 1990s complete with ipod connectors, bad music and machines that have seen better days. During busy times it is difficult to find machines. If you are used to an advanced, nice gym, (or even a hotel gym) you will probably be wanting more than is offered at this facility. The best part about Phifer is the pool. Worst part is the music that prevents you from fully enjoying your own music on headphones or a nice relaxing swim...
