On February 16, I purchased a USB-to-USB-C cable for a modest sum, expecting it to work with my phone. However, after only three days of use, the cable stopped functioning. I returned to this Ross location with my receipt—naturally without the original packaging for a low-cost item—in hopes of exchanging it for a working one.
Instead of a straightforward solution, I was confronted by a manager who dismissed my valid concerns. Despite the obvious defect, she insisted that without the original packaging the item could not be processed for a return, claiming it was now “used” and even alleging that there were stains on it. I explained that packaging is not a reasonable requirement when the product is clearly faulty and cannot be resold in its defective condition. Rather than addressing the issue, she attributed the damage to me, accusing me of having an attitude, and told me to leave without further discussion.
As a loyal customer who appreciates Ross’s competitive prices and has even invested in a Ross credit card, this experience was not only disappointing but also deeply concerning. The manager’s unprofessional and dismissive behavior, combined with the unnecessarily rigid policy enforcement, created an unpleasant environment that was evident in the overall demeanor of the staff. It appears that this particular location values adherence to misguided policy over common-sense customer service.
I share this review to caution potential shoppers: if you value respectful, competent service—even for minor issues like a defective $5 item—it would be wise to avoid this store. Moreover, I hope upper management takes serious note of this incident and addresses the clear shortcomings in managerial conduct, as such behavior only tarnishes the reputation of the store and undermines...
Read moreI used to go to the Mountain View Ross when it was on San Antonio. It was decent. We literally spent thousands of dollars in that store.
But in the last couple of years, they didn't have that many quality items in stock and they do not make the effort to keep their customers from trashing the place.
Worse, they do nothing about the customer's children. Now on Rengstorff in Mountain View, it's a smaller store, dark inside and as usual, snot-nosed children are playing in the toy section touching (and breaking) many items while their parents shop around the store. So, if you're going in there for a gift for a child, especially in these days of Corona, I would give Ross a hard pass.
I was in the Ross store in Santa Maria a few years ago and was impressed when they made announcements telling customers not to leave their children in the toy section and that their children should be with them at all times or they will be asked to leave. That's the proper way you keep a store nice and make it a place in which people would want to shop.
The other problem with this location is they are chronically understaffed at the registers. It's not a Corona thing. This was happening well before Corona. So you wait for a long time on a line until somebody's free to assist you. Being a discount store, people have a lot more things in their cart than you would expect so the...
Read moreRead moreplease read what a horrible experience I had yesterday. I took three items totaling 35.00 dollars. got it for house warmimg and weren't needed so I decided to exchange with something I can use from store credit. when lady was printing the credit I asked how much I am getting as I saw 6.00 I said why wouldn't wouldn't I get full amount when you are selling this for same price right now and you have several orchids on the self. she was quite experince and nice old lady, same as my age. no one ever told me that I can't get store credit without receipt, I did do that myself many times. she herself said let me see how much it will be if I were to sell to you. and price came just what it was written on it. she called young boy who was security guy, he had no idea he kept repetting whether I want to take my stuff back to I can just get 6.00 dollars. I said I would like to talk the the manager, there was no one there, he called someone, but I didn't here any sound from other side. after so much pain and frustration I said I do not want 6.00 dollars neither this stuff is of any of my use and I left the store empty handed. I will not step in again in the store. I rather go to Costco,Amazon and have easy and...
