Flying to San Diego for a weekend of better weather on Alaska (Horizon).
Snow.
It's a tough problem in the PNW. It's also being used as an excuse for the ground crews to become total F___k offs. We watched them have to wait an hour for de-icing crews to finally show up and when they did, rather than attacking 1 plane in tandem, they casually take their own planes and start spraying. Clearly the crews have not practiced or trained much on the equipment. They struggled to control the application of the de-icing streams and efficiently clean off the plane. Everything takes practice to be efficient at it and good at getting it done. These crews struggled just to get one area complete before moving on to the next only to return 5 minutes later to finished the area never completed just 5 minutes ago. It's like the operators are suffering from ADD and could not work systematically.
Working together, gets a plane completely done de-icing quickly, push that plane out so the next can be moved in promptly, then go on to the next, all things not happening. When questioned about the lack of coordination the ground crew supervisor gives the unintelligent answer of, "I know if they worked together they would get done faster but we are short truck crews to push the planes out" ... Really! Because each plane has a truck and crew hooked to them and is waiting in the trucks to push them out... for hours... I guess I'm supposed to accept this drivel as an intelligent answer and move on. I don't.
De-icing truck breaks down, now compounding the delays of poor leadership, poor preparation, poor training and a lack of teamwork.
Yay, we get to board, 2 hours late. Well done ground crew! You all are killing it! (NOT!) Now we wait for another hour for them to get to us... its only going to be 20 minutes according to the flight crew, everyone laughs as they have been watching the fiasco and know this is supreme bullshit of the highest calliber. In the end, we leave 3 hours late. Sad.
If this were a freak snow storm and not day 3 of an ongoing event I'd be unphased but it's not. It's day 3 of an ongoing event.
If the ground crews were not just waiting for the de-icing equipment and it was ready to go I'd be unphased but it's not. The equipment is late and poorly operated without coordination on day 3 of an ongoing event.
If this was a hundred other things not screaming of incompetence I'd be unphased but it's not, it's day 3 of an ongoing event with ground crew supervisors giving idiotic excuses that a small child can see through.
I've flown out of PAE lots of times, this is my first time to do so in bad weather. I sincerely hope they can do better as this was extremely disappointing.
On an up note, Tsa, the Cafe and terminal staff were all awesome and efficient as is typical. The ground crews, not so much. There is clearly a universe of possibilities that they can improve on for their winter operations. Fingers crossed in...
Read moreThis is a very clean, small airport with terrible service. The employees appear to be very uncaring & do not “think outside the box.” My family (mom, dad, sister) and I were scheduled for a 3:55pm flight out to Denver where we would get on a connecting flight for our home. We had been visiting Vancouver, Canada. While driving back from Canada to Everett, we were caught at the Canadian/USA border for 2 hours & 20 minutes unintentionally. We quickly made it to Everett as fast as we possibly could, and ran into the airport exactly at 3:30pm. The man behind the counter for checking the bags, etc. REFUSED to let us on our scheduled flight. Our flight was the only flight boarding at that time, and he told us they were already ready to go and had locked the doors. (25 minutes before the flight was supposed to take off) He did not attempt to graciously accommodate us, look for other flights (from there or SeaTak), or radio to the plane saying “there is a family of 4 here”. He told us we were not allowed on board no matter what. We were helped by another employee who (after two hours), was finally able to book us a Standby flight out of Everett to San Francisco that night. We were guaranteed seats by two of the employees. Once the boarding was complete for this flight & standby passengers were called, we were told there was only one economy seat left. As a family we did not want to split up, and we then asked do you have any first class? At this point the four of us would sit anywhere and do anything to get out. The employees told us there were 3 first class, but we were not allowed to have them. We then asked if anybody on the plane could be bumped/moved up to first class, and we take their economy seats and we were again told no.
This is too small of an airport to not utilize all the airplane seats for standby passengers. There are not enough outgoing flights with connections to not allow people such as my family to get to our home, which is halfway across the United States. We eventually did make it home, but I will not be coming back to this airport. Because of the fiasco of not letting us on our original flight, we then had to fly 2 standby flights and one confirmed flight home due to the lack of connections and availability.
Doors close 10 minutes before take off, not 25min. There was no one in line for security, as we were the only plane taking off from Everett at that time as I said. We easily could have made the original plane in time...
Read moreLove the airport and it's easy access. However TSA leaves a lot to be desired. I have TSA pre and read that there is a TSA pre line. There is but it means nothing everyone goes through the same line. Only difference is they hand you a card telling you that you can leave on your shoes and light weight jacket. You also have to take out your tablets. I had a light weight sweater on and was told I had to take it off because it wasn't a jacket. I only had my purse to go through TSA thought it would be easy especially since I had TSA pre. Boy was I wrong. The lines were long for such a small airport and the xray took forever. They keep going back and forth 3 and 4 times per bag. Meanwhile I just have my purse and 50 mins before my flight leaves. Recently have had 2 total knee replacements and told them that. I had to go back and take my ked tennis shoes off and walk through again, seriously ked tennis shoes absolutely no metal at all. Needless to say my knees set it off again and had to be patted down No problem pat me down I understand you have to be told how you'll be patted down. It shouldn't take long to explain. In the meantime my name is being called and the gate agent walked down the 3 stairs and asked if I was the person they had been paging that they were going to close the door. The TSA agent informed me the gate was not far (my 1st time) and told me next time to be at the airport 2 hours early. Really I've never shown up at SEA TAC 2 hours early and have never missed a flight. I know since the airport is fairly new everyone is being cautious but seriously could we have some experienced TSA working there? And could a line be designated for TSA clear as advertised. I know it says it's opened when neccessary and from what I saw it was. There were plenty of people hanging on to the do's and...
