From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and a friendly atmosphere. The staff at Roy Meat Service are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about their craft. They took the time to answer all of my questions about different cuts of meat and even offered cooking tips that I can't wait to try out at home. It's rare to find a place where the employees truly care about helping their customers, but at Roy Meat Service, it's evident that they do.
The selection of meats is impressive! They carry everything from juicy steaks and tender pork chops to delicious sausages and fresh poultry. I was particularly impressed by their locally sourced options, which is a huge plus for anyone who wants to support local farmers. The quality of the meat is unmatched; you can tell that they take pride in what they offer. I picked up some ribeye steaks, and they were hands down the best I've had in a long time.
One of the standout features of Roy Meat Service is their commitment to customer satisfaction. During my visit, they went above and beyond to ensure I found exactly what I was looking for. They even offered to customize my order based on my preferences, which is something you rarely see at larger grocery stores. Read moreRoy’s is a Nashville institution. It’s hard to review overall as they provide so many services. There’s the BBQ which is more old school BBQ stand style and not the expensive, competition style BBQ common these days. Then there’s the meat and 3 style plate lunches which doesn’t have the variety of mains like the traditional Nashville places. Then there’s the meat service itself which offers custom cuts and high quality meats not found in common grocery stores. But it’s also a small grocery shop which provides vegetables and goods for the local community. And a beer store with a wide variety. Most important of all there’s the family and friends attitude that goes on there. Packs of kids coming in to get drinks after practice. Old friends who stop off to get milk, a tomato, some chops and check on other friends and pass family news. Dad’s coming in to get that custom cut for their “famous grilled __” and a six pack for the weekend cookout. Tennis couples grabbing wine coolers. Local workers getting a quick plate lunch and eating at the tables in back or outside. All are welcome and treated like family. It’s a vibe not seen much anymore,...
Read moreRoys is located a little off the beaten path in East Nashville and unless someone has told you about it or you live near there you probably wouldn’t know it was there.
Whether you are looking for a reasonably priced plate lunch or want to take something home, Roys has pretty much what you need for a successful bbq at the house including a decent selection of craft beer.
The meat is priced competitively with Publix or Kroger but looked to be better quality. in addition, they also carry high quality wagyu if you are making a special meal.
Sandwiches are prices around $6 each and a meat and with 2 sides is less than $10.
I ordered the 4 bone ribs ($8.50 a la carte) and turnip greens and enjoyed it on the patio outside. The ribs were very well done but the sauce was really one of the better sauces in recent memory.
If you haven’t, check them out. Places like Roy’s are what gives Nashville a unique, friendly, neighborhood feel in comparison to other concrete...
