This is the coolest little store and has been such an awesome addition to town since their opening! There's lots of local products and items from other small businesses. Tons of healthy snacks and fresh local produce. Local meats. There's even fun socks, toys, puzzles, and books! There's always something new and exciting to see every time I visit the store and I never walk out empty handed (in fact I usually walk up to the cash register with two arms full of stuff because I think I'm going in for one thing and end up grabbing a bunch of new stuff to try). When the pandemic hit, Jon really stepped up and provided the community with the things we all needed but struggled to find, such as hand sanitizer, flour, eggs, meat, and toilet paper just to name a few. The produce box program provides lots of delicious fruits and veggies and the surprise item is something I look forward to every week. The staff are all very friendly and they enjoy chatting with the customers and answering any questions you may have. I can't recommend this store highly enough and it feels great to support a local small business owner, who in turn supports other small businesses by the items he stocks...
Read moreJon Henry has quickly become a pillar of the community in the Shenandoah Valley. He is committed to fair and ethical business practices, and he pays his employees and suppliers very well. He intentionally employs underprivileged school aged youths as a form of community mentorship and gives them a solid business education.
Jon is very generous in his time and money, giving for example, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food to area food banks, personally delivering and organizing community food initiatives; Jon has helped to feed thousands of poor folks from Highland County to Culpeper, without thought of personal gain.
Jon's store is eclectic and magical. There is everything from discount jeans and snarky socks to fresh seasonal produce to quality frozen seafood. Everything is priced fairly and Jon's controlled profit margins reflect his commitment to providing affordable and healthy food.
If every small business in the valley were half as responsible and generous and ethical as Jon Henry General Store is, there would never be another big box chain here again.

Read moreLovely little store in New Market, VA. Perused them in summer and left with arms full of fresh local produce. Told myself I’d go back. Re-visited today to shop specifically for stocking-stuffers for my boys (they’ve got loads of things for littles, mine are in their teens/twenties)… I was not disappointed! I purchased some very cool socks, snacks, gloves, wild game jerkys, and hot sauce. Warning: It’s a crowded space. Not a bad thing, but it’s kinda hard to make your way through. There were lots of shoppers today (this made me feel good, since the shop is full of small brands). Parking is tricky. Staff were present, friendly-ish...
