My experience at Baby Bangz was both positive and negative. Unfortunately, the negative out weighed the positive. I scheduled a consultation with Anastasia in April, however, when I showed for the appointment she was not there and another beautician evaluated my hair. It went well and before leaving I discussed with the manager, who was working at the reception desk, what I needed and wanted based on the consult. We talk about all the services needed and the price for each. The total price for all services was $210. I agreed and made an appointment. The day of my appointment everything went fine. Anastasia did a beautiful job with my color and cut. The problem came when I was checking out as the price went from $210 to $340...a $130 increase. I asked the receptionist why there was such an increase in price and she stated the price was determined by the services Anastasia listed. I made sure at my consultation to ask about pricing because you need to know what your getting into. Finding out after services are rendered is not the time. I wanted to talk with Anastasia about the price increase but the receptionist said she was working with another client and suggested I speak with the manager, which I did. The manager was very receptive, apologized, and I felt heard. I don't mind paying people what their services are worth but if a price is negotiated then it should be honored and the client should be informed before services start if there needs to be price adjustments. Also, if a consult is booked with a particular stylist, that is the person who should show up not someone else so that the client and the actual stylist doing the service are on the same page with what needs to be done and are in agreement with the pricing. Like I said, I felt heard so I had no reservations about scheduling another appointment with Anastasia, which i did. That brings us to today. Earlier in the week I received a text asking for an appointment confirmation, I replied and confirmed. I also got a call on July 1st from the receptionist, who left a voicemail asking me to call and confirm and I did so. So, why is it that when I arrived today, July 2nd @10:00 am, for my appointment the manager informed me that Anastasia was not working today. There was no mention of an emergency or any reason given at all for why she wasn't there only confused looks that gave, what in the world made you think you had an appointment. So, how is it that a text confirmation was made as well as a personal confirmation phone call the day before and some how the manager as well as Anastasia was clueless that i was scheduled for today. This appointment has been on their books since April...totally UNPROFESSIONAL! Then when I explained to the manager that one of her staff just contacted me the day before and confirmed my appointment with Anastasia, she tried to gaslight me and said that I misunderstood the conversation. I didn't misunderstand anything as I have the voicemail as proof. Anastasia did a wonderful job on my hair and it's a shame that I won't be returning or recommending this shop. I tried...but I cannot continue to patronize or recommend a business who's pricing isn't transparent and consistent, has nice but inept management, with staff that don't show up as scheduled to...

I asked to go from black to dark brown. A test was done without heat and the black lifted to honey gold within 20 min. The following week the owner applied bleach and sat me under a dryer obviously too long, like 30+ min. after only checking my hair after I looked at her with a questioning look, "Has this been long enough?"
The owner over processed my natural hair!!!!! Never had color damaged hair in my life. Grew my natural hair for the last 7 years, focused on thickening it, and keeping it healthy. It grew to a length under my underarms and then .....
I searched for months to trust a stylist to lighten my hair only to end up dreading stying my hair now. I'm starting over! Every time I see a healthy natural with any color I'm upset! I'm constantly reminded that the owner damaged my hair after all of those years of growing healthy hair.
At first, I hoped it would regain curl texture after a few washes. I could not comb the "thin straw," so I finger untangled it for 2 months. Now I gently, slowly, comb the ends, and finger detail in a way I can't even describe because the ends are that easily tangled into knots only to pop off.
After calling the salon and sharing my tangled mess, issue with the receptionist, I politely asked if the owner would help. After that I text the owner, sent photos, even video of my hair clumping into dreadlocks. The owner suggested Olaplex. That product made the strings hard AND tangled.
The owner only text, never called, never scheduled a follow-up appointment after I asked for help.
Do not let Anastasia color your hair!!!!! I can't speak for the other ladies. This is my unfortunate story....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis experience for me was strange and dissatisfying. I have been to BabyBangz before and had a wonderful experience. This time however, my time was wasted and I was turned away.
After booking my appointment in advance, Reiona proceeded to tell me that she could not straighten my hair. She stated that there were stipulations listed on her styleseat; however, there were none. In addition, she told me that she was 'picky' about what type of hair she straightens. Being that this is a natural hair salon that caters to black hair I was disappointed and offended to be told that my hair, which is thick, shoulder length, and dense, did not fit a particular hair texture that she straightens.
Reiona also mentioned that she only does silk press for clients who have been coming to her for a while and wear their hair straight as opposed to curly, because 'some hair may not be able to handle heat'. My issue with this is that on the salon website she is dubbed the 'silk press master'. If there is such a small subset of people who can request this hairstyle it should not be able to be booked without directly speaking with her. But even then, once I had booked the appointment, she had the opportunity to contact me and let me know that she would not do my hair. Instead she waited for me to arrive.
This was incredibly unprofessional and I was truly shocked that this occurred at such a great salon. I then had to scramble to find another stylist in the city to silk press my hair on such...
