This station is a dump! Its 8:31am Friday May 20th and who ever is working at the booth at this tine is rude and not helpful. 3 machines that is only taking coins only and one machine that only take cards. Plenty of non english speaking travelers without card and or coins are left puzzled and confused. One tried his best to ask for an alternative in english and the lady in the booth with attitude speaking in english not wanting to take the persons cash bc they do not anymore ever since the pandemic which i understand but when the machines are not functioning well this should be an exception ! So she guides him to the check cashing place right outside the station (mind you this cash checking always has long long lines) making this person and everyother person who is there trying to figure out a way to pay stranded and making them miss their train. Read more53rd Street Train Station is very clean and safe. The booth Clerks are very kind and considerate. One important thing that I want to say is that since about six months ago the Booth Clerks are not allowed to give change to passengers needing it for the MetroCard Vending Machine. So please be contious of having the exact change or use a Credit or Debit Card if you have one. They are also thinking of doing away with Booth Clerks altogether. We need to let the MTA know that we need to keep the Booth Clerks. We need them for when the machines are not working, to give traveling instructions and give us the envelope for when the MetroCard Vending Machine keeps our money. Read moreThis subway station is one of the latest along the MTA R line. Unfortunately all traces of the prior station were removed. Leaving some of us nostalgic for the old tiles and art deco-ish elements.
On the other hand the station has vastly improved in terms of look and feel. The brighter lights, cameras and WiFi add a layer of safety that was long overdue.
And for those that are nostalgic, the MTA has installed new artwork and poetry as part of the embellishment.
Now if they could just get all those digital schedule boards and signage operating properly, many of us...
