Awani Hair Braiding — Local services in New York

. I am writing this review to warn ladies about the services that were provided to me. I pay 100$+ for silk a press and hundreds of dollars on weaving hair. i wear sleek ponytails that also cost 100$+ and last me less than a week. I have absolutely no problem paying 260$ for braids black girls love braids hello!. Don’t get me wrong ladies, she can style hair very nice. I was pleased with the style. I am giving 1 star because I repeatedly told her NOT to pull my edges and she did just that. Anyone that goes to her know that she is first come first serve. When she starts your hair. She immediately goes into focus mode.(isn’t a bad thing hair is art you do have to focus) Awani knows that she has a long day ahead of her, so she wants to start quickly and finish quickly. When I told her about my edges She got annoyed. Her response was “this is how I braid”. I guess I was “complaining” I wasn’t allowing her to tap into FOCUS mode to braid my hair tight,fast, and HOW EVER SHE WANTED TO BRAID IT. I am not tender headed. I’ve been wearing braids since forever!! I know people that braid tight as hell but they would adjust to their clients needs. As for her being gentle and taking her time when it came to my edges she did not do that! (MY OPINION) Awani does not care about nothing but the money. My hairstyle was 260$ I only kept it in for 2 weeks because I could feel my edges pulling badly. We all know that once your edges are pulled from braids, you may get permanent bald spots. Edges can even take weeks sometimes years to grow back. I’ve heard horror stories of woman that developed traction alopecia because of sh* like this ! MORAL of the review is I will not be going back to her. I will find a lady with better service who has growing hands, cares about her clients OH YEAH SHE ONLY LIKES THE LADIES THAT TIP...

I have been coming for years to have my hair braided at this establishment and never once had I ever had an issue or problem. I don’t like going anywhere else! Her braids are nice/ neat and I have many comments stating they are beautiful! You will not be disappointed in getting your hair done here. I’m normally at her front door at 7am waiting for it to open and I travel from Flatbush.. ok! It gets busy rather quickly that’s how much she does a great job…go to her Instagram page to see the evidence ladies and gents on a job well done! I will continue to attend for as long as I’m in NY. People come from far to get their hair braided here (Queens/LI to same a few, I know I’ve spoken to them while I waited for her to open), so what else can I say…come see...

The space is quite small and could definitely use some deep cleaning and general upkeep. On the positive side, the wait time was short and the pricing was affordable. However, the man who braided my hair was very rough, and despite specifically asking for the braids not to be done tightly, they were still too tight. My scalp was in so much pain that I had to remove the braids after just two days. If you're looking for a clean, hygienic environment or have a sensitive scalp, this may not be the right...
