Google Maps takes you through both Randalls and Wards Islands if you're biking or running from the Bronx to Manhattan and I'm so glad it does: what a pleasant oasis hidden right in front of our eyes! I took the shot of that sunscreen dispenser as an indication of how much thought went into putting this family friendly area together (I had taken more pictures, I don't know what happened to them). I will certainly take more pics next time I ride through the islands, I promise. All the ballfields are well maintained, the paths are clear of debris, there are plenty of Dept. of Parks workers about if you need help and it is so, sooo quiet: you're on an island between the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens yet it's as quiet as a nature trail, which is yet another thing you can do while you're there.
