Was told to come here by many people on our TikTok page so we went ahead and stopped in. Grabbed a Belly Buster and a Hook Up for myself and the lady had a Dog with Bacon and Cheese sauce. Didn't find out until after that it's nearly standard to grab a yoo-hoo also...sorry for missing that train!
So I didn't try the bacon dog but my gf said she enjoyed it a lot. What's not to love about bacon and cheddar sauce?! Let's start with the Belly Buster. So this dog has Kraut, Hot Onions, Cheese, and Hot Chili for like $2.50 ... uhm, what?! Lots of toppings and a pretty cheap dog. Sometimes the cheap prices make me skeptical. This was a good dog. The chili had a nice little kick to it and the onions were great. Cheese is cheese and Kraut is kraut typically, but all of these items together made a really tasty doggie for a killer price.
The Hook-Up might have been better! More of that awesome chili but this time with some mayo, ketchup, and cole slaw. Really solid combination of flavors, I can see at these prices why this place is such a hit...especially amongst the late night crowd looking for something to fill their stomachs after a night at the bars.
JJ's Truck in Newark, NJ -...
Read moreJJ's Hot Dogs is a true gem of a hot dog truck stand. It is very easily found, being located on Bloomfield Avenue, just east of Branch Brook Park, and has been at its current location for decades. Besides coming by car, one can readily get there by mass transit, via the Newark Light Rail (one long block from the Bloomfield Avenue Station), and by bus routes 11, 28, 29, and 72. The hot dogs here are of top quality, and the toppings/and offerings are quite good. I came by very late in the day recently, and enjoyed both a chili dog and an onion and sweet peppers dog. The chili, despite being late in the day and rather cooked over, still had a great kick to it, rather than the sometimes over sweetened chili one gets elsewhere. The prices are very economical compared to other establishments, and the server was a remarkably pleasant and engaging person, making what most people would categorize as "just a hot dog truck", a most enjoyable experience that bears repeat patronage...
Read moreVisited the truck located on Bloomfield Ave. This is a very high traffic area & parking could be an issue depending on the time of day. I happened to get lucky & found a spot right at the corner of Lake Street & Bloomfield. I visited JJ's based on a recommendation of an old college friend. I purchased 3 🌭 (1 sweet peppers & potato, 1 bacon potato & cheese, 1 coleslaw & baked beans). I also picked up a C&C root beer, which was nostalgic! The potato & sweet peppers needed a kick like a chipotle sauce or a Mexican Guacamole salsa or something, the bacon, cheese & potato was excellent, the other dog was for my mother. On my next visit, I'll give the spicy chili a go. Loved the root beer, next trip I'll pick up a black cherry 🍒. Prices are very reasonable. I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs but I wasn't disappointed. Would love to see a variety of sauces to dress the dogs with tho. Give this some thought guys. Bye...
