I've live in Newcastle and have been going to this location for 6 years. They have a new female manager which I am displeased with. A few weeks ago I went in to try to buy broadleaf killer for my property. She tried to sell me pre emergent chemicals stating that is what I need to kill the existing weeds. I tried explaining to her how pre emergents work and she still said it would kill the weeds. Another employee backed me up telling her that pre emergents will not kill existing weeds. She told me in the conversation that her husband has a landscape business. Hum!
Today I went to Newcastle Ace. I needed help finding a Shark Bite shutoff valve. Their website stated they were available in the store. I was helped by a younger man and told him what I was looking for. He showed me where the valves were. They were out of single bags of valves even though they showed them available online. They had on bag of 4 valves with only three in it. Apparently someone only needed one and took it out of the bag. I asked the young clerk if they would sell me two out of the bag since they didn't not have any single in stock. He stated he would have to check with the manager. I followed him to the register where the same female manager was. The clerk helping me told her what I needed and also told her one was missing from the bag. She calculated what the cost was with three and said she would sell the bag of three for $33 and some change. I told her I only needed two and if she could just figure the cost. She said she could not sell only two and that it had to be three. I'm not sure why since she already reduced the price from 4 to 3. They could have put the extra one on the shelf and sold it individually. I told them I will go to OKC and buy them there and told them that I thought they would help me out. I left.
These are two incidents I have had with the same manager. I think I will start going to Westlake at SW 119 and Western. I might return if she ever gives up her position...
Read moreI am disabled. I called the store and spoke with a clerk to ensure that the items I needed were available before I sent someone to purchase them for me. I called around 2:00 and request 4 bags of Weed and Feed and said that someone would pick them up a little after 4:00, and would they hold them for me since 4 was all they had. She said that she would hold them under the name I provided for her. The person picking them up was able to go earlier than anticipated, so they arrived before 4:00 and the store had already sold 2 bags to someone else. The 2 bags that were left was not enough for my job, so it was frustrating to know that their customer relations didn't mean any more than that to them. It was their right to sell the product, but you would think that they would at least wait until the agreed time to see if you showed up before letting someone else have it. They need a good PR person to have a team meeting with their staff and manager. A couple of years ago, while I was still able to drive, I had gone to their store to look at statuary items that were on sale. I noticed a large statue that I liked and asked one of the clerks if it was one of the items on sale. I received a very sharp, unfriendly reply stating, "NO! I'm not selling that to you for that price". Being in retail business and customer service my whole life, it's very hard for me to continue to do business with people who act like they are doing you a favor to help you, and they don't value their customers enough to keep their word. The attitude of the sales clerks trickles down from management. In my case, the clerk was nice and helpful this last time. I am sure she had permission from management to go ahead and sell the items that were on hold. Just...
Read moreRock Hollow is a wonderful gem of a hardware store in the Newcastle, OK area. So far, Rock Hollow has had everything I've needed at a reasonable price. Another reviewer balked that things may be more expensive than, say, Lowes, but by the time you drive to Moore or Mustang to hit a big box home improvement store, was it really worth saving a few cents or a dollar? You've saved the same amount or more in time and fuel. I've seen that in most cases, prices are very comparable and in multiple cases (like pool chemicals) the prices were more fair than chain stores.
The appearance of the store is very nice and is warm and inviting. Instead of dusty concrete floors, RH has a bright wood laminate and everything always seems really clean. I discovered recently that RH has a really nice selection of pool supplies and can also test your water and offer suggestions. They don't try to oversell like other chain pool supply stores. They have also been a great resource for getting recommendations about local contractors like landscaping companies, pool companies, etc. It's nice to be able to get advice on such things about local companies instead of having to rely on thumbing through a phone book and...
