It takes an exceptionally bad dining experience for me to even contemplate leaving a negative review because I realize that sometimes you can just come into a restaurant on a bad day and have an unusually bad experience at an otherwise fine establishment. But during my dinner experience this evening virtually nothing went right and most everything went wrong. Since theyâre new Iâm hoping constructive criticism is helpful.
It was very clear the staff was stressed and underprepared for dinner service. Communication between the kitchen, the bar, and the waitstaff seemed so imperfect as to almost be absent. Everything we ordered was very slow to arrive, which is understandable on a busy night in a new restaurant, but when it was eventually served it was either missing something or was totally incorrect. Itâs one thing to wait an inordinate amount of time for the correct dish or drink you were hoping for, and quite another to wait a long time for something unremarkable and incorrect. I could tell the staff was doing their best; Our server was friendly and eager to correct mistakes but struggled to do so amidst all the chaos. It seemed I was experiencing a systemic failure that was out of the hardworking staffâs control.
Perhaps they couldâve offered a smaller menu of dishes they feel confident they could execute correctly, affordably, and efficiently during busy hours, or maybe delayed their opening until they were fully staffed and trained sufficiently.
I hope this restaurant finds their footing and success in Newport, Iâd love to see them succeed. But after walking away with a very steep bill for a very unsatisfying meal I canât see myself going back. I feel like I learned an expensive lesson about waiting awhile before visiting a newly opened restaurant on a...
Read moreDidn't opt to sit at sushi bar just too loud with hibachi but that's ok, seated in booth, waitress nice enough , friendly and fast. Got lunch special 2 rolls and miso soup, and also fried calamari app. Soup of course came out fast, not too salty, but like only 1/2 teaspoon of combined seaweed and tofu. Calamari I thought too soft and dipping sauce wasn't flavorful. Eel and avocado roll was ok, California roll wasn't typical fake crabmeat that we are all used to and expecting, was mushy different mix. I've had worse in Maine though. Not authentic Japanese maybe good for hillbillies in area but not for someone who knows sushi from CT, NYC, or...
Read moreSo happy to have this restaurant in Newport! My husband and I were seated and served promptly. The service was lovely, they take care of everything but don't hover. The food is spectacular. We got a volcano roll, rib eye teriyaki, and chicken tempura. The volcano roll was HUGE and tasty, rib eye teriyaki was tender and well seasoned, and the chicken tempura was crispy and delicious. Be aware, the tempura dish came with the veggies deep fried as well, which was not bad just not known. At the end, pay at the counter. We paid ~80$ for everything, but have plenty of leftovers for at least another meal each. This will absolutely be a regular...
