Overpriced and unenjoyable. Management seemed to have a problem getting it together this year because the course didn't even open till mid-June. But hey, things happen. Prices have increased since last year, $48 to ride 18 on the weekdays (special promotion, for a limited time only). Tee boxes and greens are hit and miss, about half are in good shape, the other half are more dirt than grass. But what really unseals the deal for me is the condition of the rough. It's high, thick, and full of dead grass clippings. Any wayward shot more times than not ends up being a lost ball, and after 10-15 minutes of wandering around if you do happen to find it good luck getting any club on it. This would severely reduce the pace of play as people spend an inordinate amount of time looking for their ball if not for the fact that I think the word is out about this course. On a Saturday afternoon I pretty much had the front to myself, but I quit after 4 holes after losing half a dozen balls. It's unfortunate because I used to really like this place. It's a great layout and has so much potential. However, even though it is a DoD facility it does not receive any funding and must rely on it's own revenue to support itself. And if things keep going on their present course it wouldn't surprise me if they closed the doors in the next...
Read moreWe made our reservation for 16 golfers two week ago today. When we arrived, service appeared friendly. 16 golfers and eight golf carts later. We got to the first tee and the guy who checked us in came to the tee and said you should have told me you had 16 golfers. ( you checked us in you knew how many golfers we had) He said I am going to put two golfers in front of you. We were okay with that. 10 mins later the came out with another employee to give us these rules he did not give us at check in. Like you can not have 16 golfers at a time. (Again he checked us in) Then he told us we need to leave the golf course because we are not professionals and we have no business on the course. He began to be Condescending. We informed him we all are highly educated and totally understand what was really happening. If you are a family of color this is NOT the golf course for you. Worst service we received in a while. We have two military veterans in our family, one a retired Master Chief, that is why we picked this golf course. What a...
Read moreI thought the veterans memorial course was a beautiful layout. Really beautiful golf holes with contour and really nice trees. I can say that the staff was friendly and professional, but I’m only talking about 1 person because that’s all I saw. Which brings me to the only bad thing I can say about the course: it wasn’t in great condition. The greens weren’t in good shape. But I had a great time playing it, and for the price I paid, it won’t be the last time. If you’re in the area and want to play some golf, I WOULD recommend that you play the veterans memorial course. Just know that even though you are a stones throw away from Lake Michigan, you are a looooong way away from pebble beach.
