Normally I love this thrift chain, I drive from KY every other month to hunt for vintage items. However, all locations now have the mentality that just cause an item has a vintage tag, it must be worth a small fortune. A vintage crappy item is still a crappy item, no matter how old it is, especially when stained, torn, falling apart or the fur disintegrates when you touch it. Trust me. A torn up faux fur jacket with the lining shredded is not worth $50-100, which seems to be the pricing standard for jackets at all locations I have noticed. That however is not the icing on the cake - I found this adorable print replica of the South Shore Line, something near and dear to my immigrant families heart as this is where they immigrated in the 20s from Germany and rode this train into the city, and thought it would look amazing in my living room back home. Saw a $5 sticker in the inside and thought it was a little pricey but it was worth it for the sentimental value. Turns out they wrote the actual price on the FRONT of the print in Sharpie! Why?! I still got the print and hopefully an alcohol pad will not take the color out of the print or cause the marker to bleed into the cardstock. I mean seriously, why would you write on a print with sharpie? They do this with Pyrex and Tupperware too, just use a sticker. 😒 But please, management, reconsider the pricing on your items. No reason SHEIN pants should cost nearly $20 and every item with a vintage tag cost 3x more than everything else just because it’s vintage. You are going to end up pricing out the people who live in your communities.

I am absolutely disgusted with the Village Thrift Store. Their prices are ridiculous! $25 for a stained sweatshirt. Fake purses behind counter for $200+ and the aisles are trashed! The most asinine thrift my friends & I have ever been to.

I’ve actually shopped here many times, might still shop rarely going forward but it would be if other places are really out of stuff. Only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because they do really have good stuff here almost every time I go, but there are just way too many downsides to outweigh that positive aspect at this point. Some of which are: they’re more concerned with getting ridiculous money out of items than simply moving them like every other thrift store. Mainly because they obviously have people pricing the items by looking at the highest EBay or internet LISTING they find and price things at like 75% of that if you’re lucky. This isn’t the case with EVERYTHING of course but just about anything worth buying uses that pricing model. They clearly don’t look at what things actually sell for on those same listings and think they can charge even comparable prices to those settings without realizing those prices are for things that will need to be shipped, cleaned (because almost everything sold here is straight out of an attic or crawl space, I’ve never gotten something I didn’t have to clean first sometimes for an hour or more), and they all have fees attached likely for 10%-30% each. Not only that but they have a really infuriating tendency to draw the absurdly inflated prices directly onto the items in PERMANENT MARKER. Even finished wood among other mind blowing surfaces. Requiring you to sometimes destroy the finish in one spot to even remove the marker before then somehow repairing said finish if you’re lucky. Some stuff it just doesn’t come off at all and ends up being a total loss. They do this obviously because people can’t switch tags and such with that method, which just highlights how seemingly obsessed they are with getting paid their ridiculous prices even at the cost of devaluing said items in the process. These issues were tolerable until my last visit where I purchased 7 solid bodied aluminum bats that were in a bucket with “bats $1.59ea” written on it and I was just there a day or 2 before where I purchased 8 composite bats from said bucket for $1.59ea yet this time for whatever reason they said they’re “$2.99ea” or more if they had a price written or tag on them. So not only did I just buy bats from the SAME bucket 2 days prior, but they were even less valuable bats this time and they wanted more for them rather than just honoring their own pricing. They apparently figured “oh wait, this is a pretty good deal we better change that real quick.” Like no business does that…it’s unprofessional and outright shady especially when literally every piece of merchandise in the store is obtained for free lmao. I just can’t get over how slimy that is. Keep in mind this same transaction had conflicting price tags on 2 of the 30-35 items I had at checkout not including the bats and one of them they charged the higher price, the other they didn’t even let me buy and said I’d have to come back the next day for after they price it or whatever. Like they’re pricing a diamond ring and need their jeweler to appraise it. It was an air mattress by the way. An Amazon brand. So I’ve easily spent probably a few thousand $$ here over time and this was just kind of a slap in the face for literally pocket change on borderline junk. Pawn shops I’ve worked in have more relaxed pricing on actual quality stuff than this thrift store does. So worth a look maybe every couple months but don’t frequent this place unless you want them treating you like you’re just switching $6 tags for $3 ones. Even if someone was doing that, why would you care? Not justifying someone doing that but it’s just so baffling why they price things here like they’re dyslexic, and then why they act like their paychecks get docked when an item sells for less than full...

All the negative reviews are a little too hateful tbh, don't get me wrong some of the stuff can be marked up expensive but I usually find at least 1 pair of grail heat shoes or clothes when I shop here that I wouldnt find at any other thrifts and they have it in abundance too so everyone gets a slice of the pie. My issue is the prices, it's Alot more pricey than your typical goodwill or salvation army but this village in particular has Alot of great items. I like going on the 50% off days to save money. I find crazy rare vintage shoes or vintage clothes that are discontinued. Lots of hidden grails. Most of the marked up stuff for the prices is to keep them in business. However be cautious and know what your buying, some stuff may be unauthentic and replica items so be careful , especially with how they charged inflated prices. I've seen Alot of fake shoes ,fake purses, fake rings, fake designer fragrances all being sold and marked up to higher prices so please do an authentication check before you buy something because they don't do returns. They will sell you a pair of replica or fakes for the same price as a the real ones do online and it's used, not even new. However on the other hand if you can get past that, they have some insane finds. Especially on vintage stuff nobody really knows about or things the workers don't have knowledge on other than popular trends with Jordans or designer stuff, so they mark up what they think is worth Alot of money then look over to find some hidden grails they don't care about for dirt cheap that go for Alot more money but the workers don't have a clue. I will find some regular air force 1s marked up to $50 just because they are popular meanwhile I found an Original pair of 2001 cherry 11s nearly brand new for $15 because they assumed they were beat up and dirty because the bottoms were yellow due to age but they didn't know what they had lol. They do that with Alot of things and markup the more popular trendy stuff but if you search long enough you will come across some crazy heat. However I see fake Jordans all the time and fake designer stuff so be careful. Sometimes you can get scammed and not be allowed to return cuz of their policy and with their high prices it makes it a lil worse. You just have to know what your actually buying before you drop the bread on it, I've seen fake Yeezys, fake kobes, fake Jordans and had to skip on stuff like that,

the workers are really nice hard working people, I love their culture and the grind they do. They support the community and they are just trying to...

I had to edit my review of ten years ago. I come in often for work clothes and cookware to restore. I spoke to several different ladies who speak no English whatsoever. How in the world in 2024 do you hire people whose job is working with the public as customer service and they can’t answer a simple question? I’m black so this has nothing to do with race. It has to do with being professional. You stand at the display counter for several minutes to see something on the shelf yet no one comes over even after they look over and see you waiting . They have at least 20 people working all over yet not one person comes and greet you or ask if you want to see anything. You stand in long lines to pay just to get to the register and they have no price on the item. I took a cast iron skillet up there and they say no price no sell. They put a price on the black cookware directly on the skillet with a black marker. It’s always been like that so I don’t expect any change. Also they put these outrageous prices on things that they get for free. I’ve seen clothes and shoes there that’s the same price as new ones at stores. At least put a freakin button at the display to ring for service. If they don’t speak English then don’t put them in a position where they have to deal with the public. Just do better. Anyone ever noticed that they have never had any black, white nor asian employees? Anyone ever notice that you never see any male employees there? You can’t tell me that no other person of other racial background hasn’t applied. You’re telling me that the only people who are qualified for these positions are Hispanic women who speak no or broken English. None of this seems right. EEOC and States Attorney should...
