On May 25th I went here for what I thought would be my first of many trips this season. Alas, as the teen staff is constantly on their phones and the 'manger' is a someone who should not be working with the public I will have to find another local farm to support. Several of the products I purchased were not placed with my other bags, and when I called to ask the manager to check the cameras so my products would be replaced the conversation went so badly I am going to have my husband's boss, another Northborough legacy business owner, reach out to the owner Mike. Upon reaching home I saw that a 20$ chicken pie and my eggs where not in with the bags with the rest of my purchases. I called, left a message asking for them to review the cameras so they can see for themselves and not just take my word. Upon calling today and speaking with the 'manager' I am truly livid. She insulted, lied, was derogatory, and contradicted her own statements multiple times. After supporting this local business for two to three times a month over the past four seasons I am honestly dismayed at the behavior of this 'manager'. There have been previous incidents with her not being professional, as when last year in July '24 my husband was so insulted when she made a comment about how men are 'useless'. My husband works 50 hours a week for a Northborough business as I am disabled vet from a roadside bomb incident in Afghanistan in 2006. I understand young people are attached to their phones, but when it distracts them from their jobs it is up to management to redirect their attention. I believe if the lovely young lady who checked me out did not immediately go back on her phone even prior to me grabbing my bags she would have seen that one was missing from the rest. This is in no way a negative reflection on her as it is the 40 something manager to teach our young people, not act like a snarky over grown teenager herself hurling accusations of scams, gaslightling upset customers, and mocking people who were present at the time of complaint when they themselves were not once present during the time-line of events. I do not appreciate a snarky and outwardly aggressive tone or words when I am simply requesting products that I paid cash for to be replaced. Especially when there is a refusal to check the cameras. I don't often loose my cool but when a derogatory statement was made by this individual I finally hit my limit and told her to F herself. I hope either of the owners or the actual manager sees this review, because the behavior displayed by the 'manager' I spoke with is indicative of someone placed in charge of much younger staff simply because they are double their age, or perhaps a nepotism hire clearly aware that her lack of professionalism and customer service, and plainly hostile attitude and treatment will not affect her position. Here are some examples of comments: "What do you want me to do?" "YOU were handed all of your things" "We don't check our messages, they are automatically deleted" "Not my problem" "We put notes in every purchase to call us immediately if something is missing" (never happen once in four years of going, and I did call and left a message....that just gets automatically deleted) "I don't have to check the cameras, no one saw anything left on the camera" "Another customer may have taken it then, not our issue" "You were handed your bags" (I was not handed my bags, and this individual was not present during my entire time there, the cashier was back on her phone immediately after taking my cash)* I believe the cashier placed the missing bag on the far side of the counter as these items where the...
Read moreIâm so disappointed with Berberian's today! I shop there almost weekly. I spend between $30-$40 each week. Iâm a mother with an infant and I am known to the employees. Last week, I purchased 6 avocados for .99 cents each. Unfortunately, they never ripened. They stayed hard. When I cut them open to confirm what I already suspected, they were rotten. They were from Peru, and Iâm certain they were picked unripened, and for whatever reason, never continued to ripen. I stopped in today to do my regular shopping. Although I did not have the rotten avocados in the babyâs diaper bag. I expected Berberian's to honor me as a customer and replace $6 worth of bad avocados. All I wanted was good avocados. Thatâs all.
Berberian's refused to replace my avocados as I did not have the rotten ones on me, nor did I have my receipt from last week. I donât know if I was even given a receipt last week, and if I was, itâs probably at the bottom of a diaper bag or plastered across the bottom of a wet sippy cup. Any grocery store I have ever shopped at will honor a customers word concerning bad produce. This is Trader Joeâs policy. This is Wegmanâs policyâand their customer service associates donât even know me! But yet, at Berbarians where I am seen each week, my word was not honored and no one saw fit to replace my measly $6 worth of rotten avocados. I walked out of Berbarians today with an empty cart and a crying baby. Itâs a shame the owners havenât empowered their employees to do the right thing.
You know, I wish I had saved the 6 rotten avocados so they could have continued to rot in Berberian's trash can and not in mine.
If Berberian's will not stand behind their produce, I will not shop...
