DFC Surfing Academy — Local services in Oʻahu

Unfortunately had a terrible experience with DFC. They postponed our lesson less than 40 mins from the start (7am lesson to get sunrise and we booked days in advance). Our instructor Kelcie showed up late and unapologetic. She then told us she was double booked and gave us wet rash guards and ill-fitting water shoes so bad my partners toes were all hanging out. If we had known we would have brought our own shoes. The lesson was minimal teaching and luckily we both got up but then received no instruction or tips from her. We booked because the reviews said they’ll give you lots of local info for restaurants, sites and beaches. We had to pull information out of her as if she’d rather be anywhere else. The lesson was held in 3 ft deep water on top of rocks so every fall we were scraping ourselves to the point my partners hand was bleeding and he went in to the beach. Kelcie didn’t ask or go to help. We ended the lesson early and she ran off to the next one without any regard. After emailing the owner he just wrote back unprofessional texts about having to fire his girlfriend and how he didn’t have the funds to refund us. I had an amazing experience learning to surf with Jacob during a private two-hour lesson. Surfing has been a childhood dream of mine, and thanks to Jacob, I was able to fulfill that dream today.

Unforgettable!One of the best and most fun experiences I’ve had! I booked with DFC surfing academy directly through the link on Google maps. It was really fast, simple, and, easy. The lesson too, from start to finish. I did just a single lesson. Makana was my instructor, this was my first time ever surfing. Makana was exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable about all aspects of surfing and the water. He made sure to take the time to ask me questions so that way he could adjust and tailor the lesson to my surf needs. He answered all of my questions too. He knew exactly what to adjust every wave I took and was up by only my second wave! I got better and better in no time. He could break down surfing into a science and then help you translate it to feel natural and fluid.
