I had a very disappointing experience with Haleiwa Surf School. Upon arrival, I couldn’t find the van at the designated location. After searching, I went to the spot indicated on Google Maps only to find nothing there. I tried calling multiple times, but no one answered. Finally, 30 minutes later, I received an SMS stating that the lesson was canceled. The reason given seemed questionable, and after speaking with other surf schools in the area, I learned that this has happened many times before. Apparently, the instructor often fails to show up and simply issues refunds afterward.

Read moreI highly recommend surf lessons with Chance. I had blast! I caught some waves, didn't catch some waves, laughed a lot, drank some seawater (not on purpose) and hung out with one of the most real, interesting, fun and knowledgeable surf instructors out there.
I felt very safe. Chance even rescued some other newbie surfers from heading to rocky areas. He's on it. And he gave real time feedback on what to try next round to improve. I don't know when I will have an opportunity to surf again but when I come back to Oahu I am booking with Chance again! He made it fun and really focused on safety so that we could enjoy the experience. Surfing requires a lot of practice and it is definitely a physical sport.
