Moss and Spade — Local services in Oakland

I am a plant lover and have well over a hundred plants with a large variety of different species. I bought a plant from this nursery for $45. It was a small plant and I was hesitant to spend that much money on it but that was one of the cheaper options in the store. I have 3 of the exact same species of plant (that I purchased at half that price) and they are all thriving.

The plant began dying almost immediately after I brought it home. I took it to the store after a few days when it kept dying to see if they would provide any insight. I spoke with the owner who immediately deemed the issue to be due to poor watering habits. Since I have several other identical plants, I was confused because the others are great and have the same watering schedule.

I reached out to the owner (Jessica) because I figured that they would possibly replace the plant or offer a little store credit (which I thought was a given after spending $45 on a plant that died in a few weeks). The owner had me send all kinds of pictures of the plant and had me provide a fair amount of information about the environmental conditions which I did.

After all that, they offered me a 15% discount because I was outside of their return policy. Even though I had physically brought the plant to them within that policy period and was told that the plant would make it if I had changed the watering schedule and if I bought a watering meter and a pot from them… which I did.

It was a cute store, but this situation was a lot of work for...

The storefront is quriky and beautiful. I have always wanted to have a reason to go in and today I did. Boy, what a lovely experience it was!

The person who worked with me helped me select a one of a kind plant that was perfect for the high touch gift for my family member's 70th birthday.

Though we chatted about a few plants that would fit the pot I bought, the person's in-depth knowledge of the plants - including the plant's name and singular setup (there are two plants that merged into forming the stems and leaves) made purchasing the plant a very easy choice. The store worker even make-up a custom sticker with care instructions for the plant.

Wonderful greenery selection. Fantastic and knowledgeable staff. Friendly environment for all plant novices. Moss & Spade is a non-judgemental and beyond hospitable plant shop. I have made a few purchases so far, and while i try hard to be a good botanicamom, i kinda suck, but thankfully Jessica doesn't! The official droppers of the knowledge, the plant-ambassadors of M&S are there to provide assistance for your desperate struggles of plant thriving, right down to allowing you to send emails with photo attachments...and yes, they respond back!
