Fareway Meat and Grocery — Local services in Oelwein

This is the worst Fareway in this part of Iowa. They are frequently out of store ad items. They are frequently rude, especially at the meat counter.

Yes, they will take your groceries out to the car for you and you don't have to worry about self-checkout, but being friendly, helpful, and having stock on hand would help a lot. Their meat counter is pretty-much worthless.

I contrast this with the Fareway stores in Waukon, Decorah, Evansdale, Waterloo (south side), Cedar Falls store on Greenhill Rd which does have self-checkout, Independence, Manchester, and Hiawatha stores, which always seem to have ad-items in stock, and very friendly attitudes. For some reason, the Oelwein store just cannot get it together.

I'm thankful for Hy-Vee coming to Oelwein. Maybe having some competition will help straighten this store out. If they closed their doors at this location, I wouldn't shed a tear. I already drive to the Manchester or Independence...

The produce here I can always trust. I love iat milk and these guys have a variety which I think is very awesome. Friendly staff It's always busy in here when I come and there's rude customers such as those that block whole isle ,see you and hear you say excuse me, not willing to move and sometimes there's 2 of them side by side chatting and 1 could move over to let others threw but don't. But stores can't do anything about that 😒 and other than that I like to go here but I can't find everything I want here or need. Such as NON-DAIRY ICE CREAM .. I have to go to Dollar Fresh for that. Why in the world would anyone require employees to carry customer's carts out, even when not needed for the customer at all, while prohibiting the employee from taking tips? Why would you train people to verbally pronounce to customers that they could not take tips because they make enough wages and don't need a tip? People from meats department threw my meats towards me like I was the animal in the crate. Why would you want to waste your life working somewhere, where you are frustrated like that with everything, to say the least? Why would free people in a free country ever be willing to work for such employers? Why would free customers in the free market be willing to come back to such a disgraceful store? Wake up, Iowa!
