Unopened Pack Man: The Absolute Worst Store I’ve Ever Stepped Foot In (And Why You Should Run in the Opposite Direction) By Someone Who Regrets Every Second Spent There
There are bad stores. There are overpriced stores. There are stores with that faint odor of sadness mixed with expired energy drinks and crushed dreams. And then, somehow clawing its way out of the gutter, there’s Unopened Pack Man—the crowned king of consumer disappointment. If you’ve never been, consider yourself lucky. If you have, my condolences. And if you’re thinking about going, let me save you 30 minutes of your life, a chunk of your paycheck, and what little faith you still have in retail: don’t.
A Museum of Highway Robbery Masquerading as a Store
Let’s start with the prices—because they’re the first thing to slap you across the face when you walk in (assuming the stench of overpriced cardboard doesn’t knock you out first). Imagine walking into a shop expecting to pay maybe $4–$5 for a basic booster pack. Now picture seeing that same pack on the shelf for $19.99—plus tax. No, it’s not a limited edition, no, it’s not signed by anyone, and no, it’s not even sealed well. Just your garden variety pack with a criminal price tag. At Unopened Pack Man, every item feels like it’s been marked up by someone who googled “how to scam collectors” and took it as a personal mission statement.
And don’t even think about trying to buy anything vintage. The store has this bizarre pricing logic where age automatically equals worth—regardless of actual value. A bent, creased, faded “rare” trading card from the early 2000s? That’ll be $180, please. Why? Because apparently nostalgia is priceless—or at least that’s what they’re banking on. Their shelves are less a marketplace and more a graveyard of inflated dreams, hoping someone dumb or desperate enough will come along.
Customer Service or Cursed Encounter?
The next horror: the staff. Look, I don’t expect five-star treatment when I walk into a card shop. But I also don’t expect to be treated like I just interrupted someone’s sacred nap time. The employees at Unopened Pack Man have mastered the art of indifference. Ask a simple question—like “Hey, is this box new or a reprint?”—and be prepared for a shrug, a grunt, or if you’re lucky, a passive-aggressive sigh. They either don’t know, don’t care, or pretend they know while making up facts faster than a kid bluffing their way through a book report.
On one visit, I made the mistake of asking if a display box had been tampered with. The response? A snarky “Are you accusing us of something?” as if I’d walked in and called them criminals to their faces. No, Unopened Pack Man, I’m not accusing you—your reputation is doing that all on its own.
Then there are the regulars. Not customers—regulars. The gatekeepers. These are the people who linger in the back of the store, glaring at you like you’re an intruder in their sacred temple. They hover near the counters, throw side-eye glances at newcomers, and act like every product in the store belongs to their private collection. It’s intimidating, unnecessary, and weirdly cultish.
Why Even Bother?
In an era where online shopping exists—where you can get sealed, verified packs and boxes delivered to your doorstep for fair prices—it boggles the mind that a place like Unopened Pack Man even exists. They offer no unique experience, no sense of community, and certainly no value. Everything about the place screams “we stopped trying years ago.” The only thing they seem to care about is draining your wallet and hoping you won’t notice until...
Read moreHonestly the worst customer service at any LCS I've had in 25 years collecting. Whoever Kyle is really needs to rethink the way he treats new customers in his store. Tried to negotiate on a few mid range cards that were all stickered $100-$200 dollars over recent comps. Was told that "We dont price based off ebay and recent comps". He then snatched the cards off the counter and put them back in the showcase and said, "Sounds like you should be shopping on ebay then." So then how do you value singles? You just pull a price out of thin air and make unsuspecting and uneducated customers take an absolute bath on singles. I mentioned that I had cards for sale and or trade and you were too rude and annoyed that I knew the market to even attempt to make some kind of a deal. I could have bought out both of your football showcases with what I had with me in my case that you didn't even bother to look at or ask about. A majority of the unique old sealed wax products (2013/2017) are also overpriced by HUNDREDS compared to what you can get them for on eBay. Literally preying on local collectors and fans making them overpay for anything Chiefs related. Attached is a photo of said overpriced wax and singles, the Select Kelce PSA 10 recently sold for 650 on a best offer, but lets go ahead and hold firm at 1100. 2 boxes of 2017 Prizm Retail recently sold for 1500 per box, but lets go ahead and mark that up by 1000+. You guys have got to do better, its your responsibility to build the hobby and build a long term customer base and that is definitely not how you do it. The contrast in experiences at shops on the Kansas side of the metro is honestly staggering. The only positives I can relay are the shop is clean and organized, there is a decent and again organized selection of dollar boxes, the retail wax didnt appear to be marked up nor the supplies. But overall that experience made me happy to only spend the ~50 ish bucks that I did and not the 1000's I could have spent that day on singles had he not been such a stooge. I'd recommend the drive to any other LCS...
Read moreThis place is a joke and makes the hobby look bad. I was weary to try this place out based on the reviews I read prior to going on here and how the respond to people that have a negative experience on here.. but I decided to give it a chance and I walked in and was met by a gentleman with glasses that was beyond rude to my 9 year old son and basically told him his collection was worthless and refused to even look at what he had! He literally flipped through about 60 pages in under 3 seconds and said yeah you have nothing here instead of letting him down easy and explaining stuff to him, he truly crushed my son and if that wasn’t enough I made the mistake of going back in alone to buy some top loaders and penny sleeves, I asked the price on those and some boxes and I was met with the most condescending rude responses I’ve ever encountered from a store employee let alone a small time business. Yes they have a decent selection and could be a decent store if they didn’t have such rude people working there. I’d rather drive an hour away to another store than go back inside this place, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and I hope people see this and don’t waste their time of hard earned money at a place like this. There’s a lot of other card shops in the area and I highly recommend checking them out or buying online or even Walmart before walking into this...
