Old Lyme Hardware — Local services in Old Lyme

I wrote this review and then it fell off the screen, then I rewrote it again, the aging sometimes fall behind in technology. When you retire you always seam to have more projects that never end. Many times I have searched for components for a project at other local stores and have had no luck finding the item or having store personnel try to help me find it.

When I discover Old Lyme Hardware a few years ago my luck changed. If I need something special and it is not in their inventory they will order it.

Recently on a weekend I was in need of a product that they had run out of that very day. I search the store high and low with no luck. I asked Jessica, the store owner she check her inventory, they sold out. In today’s business climate and weak economy it is very difficult to stock every possible item and with our tourism economy you never how much to stock as you cannot estimate tourist hardware needs.

Never fear Jessica came to the rescue, she knows her own inventory and she knows every hardware store with in a 25 miles radius. She called stores one by one until she found it. That is real service, profession service, honest to goodness old fashion New England service. You will never see that at any other type of store in the area, you will not see that at the Big Box Store, Internet Store or Amazon. That is why I buy local, keep employment in the area thriving, keep the economy moving and keep our community loving its neighbors.

Jessica has been a hero for me many many many time since she has reopened the Old Lyme Hardware. She has a wonderful crew of hard working people. Visit the store and you will be impressed with the inventory and the organized shelving as well as the well trained friendly crew. She has won my business and my loyalty.

Excellent customer service!. While working on my boat I snapped a bolt head off on my alternator and headed to old lyme hardware for the necessary tools and a new bolt. When I explained what had happened, owner Rich took the alternator and immediately started drilling out the old bolt and found me a new one. This was well beyond what I had expected and just shows how deeply this business cares for its customers. I'm sure there are many more stories from other happy customers. Ignore the previous low ratings. I've been in a few times now since the change in ownership (and name), and the difference is night and day. The shelves are really well stocked, and they've clearly made a point of stocking quality items (as well as local items wherever possible for a hardware store, e.g. picked up a bag of compost from a local farm). Also, because they have a large footprint for a local hardware store, they have an impressive variety of items, which means you'll only have to resort to the big box stores on...
