I came into town to visit my sister and her family in Tucson from out of state. We drove to Oracle to zip line and were Googling a place to eat for lunch on our way back, and came across the amazing reviews for Just Kebab in Oro Valley. We were entirely intrigued and happily impressed (thrilled, actually). The kebabs vary from salmon, shrimp, chicken, lamb, beef, ground beef, and vegetables (even pork, too). They have been perfectly and freshly marinated — and hearty portions have been carefully threaded onto large skewers and are kept refrigerated. When you place your order from their vast, mouth-watering menu (it’s hard to decide) the kebabs are grilled freshly for you over an open flame. Plates are served with a lightly-seasoned saffron basmati rice, pickled vegetables, and a freshly grilled Roma tomato. Be prepared to take home plenty of leftovers for a second meal, too, as portions are not just delicious, but also generous. Such a treat because you will want more after leaving. You must order your meal with the garlic sauce, too, because it is absolutely unreal and out of this world — I can see why people would want to drink it! No kidding! The hummus is made from freshly soaked chick peas (garbanzos) and the Shirazi salad is made with fresh mint. It is utterly divine! There are more dessert offerings than one can possibly choose from so we ordered a little of everything and took a lot home. So yummy! I’m looking forward to returning again every time I come to Arizona. I know the wraps would be wonderfully tasty, as well as the stews and Biryani. Family meals are also offered, too, as well as take-out and/or take-home meals that are refrigerated and ready to go. Two types of breads/naans/pitas are refrigerated and ready for purchase as well. Lastly, do not leave after finishing your meal without ordering the Persian Tea. The owner, Arash, surprised our group with a lovely sample of this perfectly balanced delight of cardamom, rose petal, orange blossom, and a hint of saffron delicacy. I am still dreaming about this tea and wish I were drinking it every day. I cannot wait to visit Arizona again (and bring my husband) just for the sheer pleasure of dining here again. Arash and his wife have mastered their cuisine and are wonderful parents to 10-year-old twins. They care for their customers ever-so diligently and you will not go wrong with anything you order from their menu. They truly aim to please and more than hit the mark. I am looking forward to this restaurant growing and franchising and hope there will be another location in my State (Utah) someday soon. You MUST dine at this fabulous restaurant — you will NOT be...
Read moreReally, really good with many different types of shish kabab and complimenting sides and appetizers. There were many other grilled entrees listed on the overhead menu but this is clearly their speciality.
I was amazed by the steady stream of customers picking up their orders all the time we were there from aboutt 6:15 to 7 or so (their hours are 11 to 7, closed Sundays) but the 4 of us guys ate in as there is plenty of seating and the owners were very helpful and friendly. Somehow each customer's order was ready and packaged to-go exactly when they arrived so they were in and out quickly and there was never any line. A QR code on our table top pointed at their website menu. This was obviously what many customers preferred and I'll be using this method myself too in the future when it's too hot to start our backyard grill.
The owner stopped at our table and chatted briefly between customers a couple times. A very nice guy who opened about 4 years ago and had quietly built a very loyal customer following, customer by customer. Tonight he added 3 more (one of us was already a big fan).
I'm not knowledgeable regarding Arabian food so I a asked for advise from the one of the husband and wife owners and then just "threw a dart". Actually though, it would probably been a bulls eye no matter what I chose. Everything was very fresh and grilled to order. Closely cared for by the owner-chef, in clear view behind a glass corner that made for interesting viewing.
The yellow saffron rice included was the best I've ever had. I also really enjoyed the flat bread with a separately ordered cucumber yogurt sauce I can't spell. (sorry) The tasty lamb shish kabob was absolutely perfect, the very best I've ever had anywhere, ever. Even much better than at home on the grill I was surprised to discover.
Note that there is no alcohol served here as the owners are Moslem. But they welcome customers bringing their own drinks which we did as one of us knew the ropes.
BTW, the entire restaurant is somewhat spartan but is all bright, spacious and spotlessly clean. Quite pleasant. A really nice family style place.
I highly recommend to all to eat in and especially to take home. Just relax, explore and ask the owners for...
Read moreI visited here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy, other individuals and larger groups coming in and out as there is also option for takeout. There was plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant. The set up of the seating and overall store design felt abrupt, furthering the notion takeout may be the main avenue for customers. The man who helped us was nice and delivered our meals to the table, which was also nice. The food itself was very very good. I had never had this cuisine before so I wanted to get a variety, and my friend and I had the falafel plate and dolmeh as appetizers. The falafel was really delicious and I was told by the man who helped us, that they make it fully themselves and is a homemade recipe. The tahini and pickled vegetables that were served with it were perfect compliments for the dish. The dolmeh was very interesting. It was made with quality (which is something that can be said for all the items we got), but we just didn't like the taste all that much. Personal preference, and not due to the restaurant. Our main entrees were delicious as well. I got the Sultani with chicken yogurt as my second kabab and my friend got one of the stews. The rice for both dishes was very generous and very delicious. The kebabs were also delicious, but I preferred the chicken yogurt over the beef. Again with the sides, I loved the roasted tomato! Next time I will ask for another. Overall if you are new like me to middle eastern cuisine, let this restaurant be your first option. It's a low-key atmosphere, quaint, and the quality really speaks for itself. The Persian tea is also very nice. I'd never had it (per the theme of my visit), its very floral and calming, though it is a black tea. The only other thing I must mention is the prices are fairly high for a single person, depending on what you get. The Sultani entree I ordered was $17.99, but it definitely was $17.99 worth of food and quality food at that. Thank you Just Kebab for being here and I can definitely see myself having a craving for your food. You have gained another customer...
