I've managed to dodge mediocre Chinese food. Maybe it's bc it's the end of the night and they didn't feel like seasoning the food. But I hate to say it was the blandest Chinese food I've had here in Tucson. Mapo tofu is supposed to be flavorful and savory and leave a little but of numbing sensation from Szechuan peppercorns and it was straight up just gravy... I was so sad. I'm going to doctor it up myself with my Chinese ingredients in my pantry. Green beans lacked that punch I'm used to... The Mongolian tofu had potential but everything felt under seasoned and I want to like this place as it is only 3.5 miles from my house... Underwhelmed and sad bc I've had some great authentic Chinese food. And I cook as well... I just didn't want to do the work and feel sad I didn't just whip something up instead of spending almost 50 bucks. Maybe it was an off night.... I dunno. I guess I'll have to fire up my wok tomorrow and doctor up the leftovers. I'm legit sad about this. The high rating misled me as I suppose those who rated has never had a legit Chinese meal in a...
Read moreWell I don't know who gives this place all the good reviews. It's poor. The only reason I gave it more than one star is the staff is very attentive and pleasant. So if you don't care what you eat, go there. I've been there twice; the first time was dreadful and I didn't go back for 4 months. We were in a hurry and it's close to our home. So this time we ordered the crab puffs to start. What crab? One must have flown over this cuckoo's nest. There was nothing inside but gobs of cream cheese. We didn't even finish them.
We ordered Yu Shiang Shrimp - nothing wrong with it, just unremarkable. And Moo shu pork. Surely the most poorly prepared I've ever had in my life. Little pork and the ingredients tasted sour. Terry said, "Bringing a whole new level of mediocrity to Oro Valley." I've had many Chinese meals in restaurants all over the world... NYC, LA San Fran and Seattle all of which I lived in many years. Also Sydney, Hawaii and even Hong Kong. Sorry, but this this...
Read moreI hesitate to say the food tasted "bad"..... because, to be frank, it tasted more like NOTHING.
First of all they list "eggrolls" on the menu. What I got were spring rolls. Big difference. These spring rolls were soggy and utterly absent of any discernible flavor. I have gotten better tasting eggrolls AND spring rolls from the frozen food section at Safeway.
The orange chicken was so bland. Again, almost tasteless. Orange chicken should be rich in orange flavor with a strong tang and a mild sweetness.
The wonton soup was the only thing I enjoyed - it had a savory flavor without being too salty, the wontons were delicious, and they give you big chunks of pork in the broth. The soup was the only thing I finished. Even the steamed white rice was mushy and overcooked. If we had not ordered takeout I would have asked for a refund.
I'm not sure why nobody in Tucson can seem to get American-Chinese cuisine right but we'll definitely not be trying this place again....
