This week will mark one month since my grandmother has been hospitalized at this 'hospital.' She was admitted initially with atrial fibrillation and a pneumonia. They then discharged her despite extremely limited improvement, and WITH THE SAME PNEUMONIA THEY ADMITTED HER WITH. They DID NOT SEND HER HOME WITH ANTIBIOTICS. Let me repeat that again: THEY SENT AN ELDERLY COPD PATIENT WITH A PNEUMONIA HOME WITHOUT ANTIBIOTICS. Do I need to say it again, except with emphasis on maybe, I don't know, MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE AND MALPRACTICE?
So a few days after discharge, my grandma won't wake up. Eventually my grandpa gets her to, but she's extremely confused. So back to this atrocious place she goes, except now she's admitted to ICU. With the same pneumonia. And now she's also had either a heart attack or a stroke, caused by the atrial fibrillation she also had when she was previously admitted. The hospital staff told us that they could not determine whether she had a heart attack or a stroke. They were supposed to do a cardioversion for the a. fib. over a WEEK AGO. As of today, according to the extremely unpleasant nurse on the stepdown unit I spoke with, they haven't done it. They've also made only one or two medication changes and only done maybe one lab despite an increase in edema and this nurse stating that my grandma now has CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE. So, if you have a family member with an acute medical condition which may be life threatening, do not send them to this hospital. They are not being aggressive with regards to attempting to figure out why my grandma is declining and to top it all off they are not doing absolutely ANYTHING to stop it. AND THEY WILL NOT TALK ABOUT IT WITH MY GRANDPARENTS. They are just letting her lay in a bed and languish until she dies.
Oh yeah, about this extremely unpleasant nurse, who worked in Stepdown on today's date (11/12/17) at around 1430. I'll be calling the manager of the stepdown unit tomorrow morning to have a nice conversation about her. Let me begin by saying that YOU DO NOT BLAME PATIENTS OR THEIR FAMILIES FOR NURSING ISSUES. This horrific example of a nurse responded with "I've been in that room three times today and they've never asked me a single question" when I said that I believed there was a lack of communication. You know who was in that room? My grandparents, who are 70+, were alone, and have no background in medicine or healthcare. One of the cornerstones of the nursing profession is patient education. No one in this hospital is telling my grandparents ANYTHING about prognosis, disease process, or anything. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO INFORMATION. They are both absolutely exhausted. How dare this nurse respond negatively to a patient advocate.
So, I'll be calling every single day to check on my loved one because it is obvious that this hospital only employs the most inept and lazy staff they can find. Holy hell, the charge nurses at the long-term care facility where I am a Director have far more initiative and critical thinking skills than the staff here. I would rather my grandma be there than in this place, as she would be receiving far better care.
I will be contacting the state of Missouri's QIO and the Joint Commission following the conclusion of this medical saga. It is blatant that this hospital does not put patient care, patient health, and patient...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI gave birth at this hospital. I had no physical problems before giving birth and immediately after delivery I had continual excruciating pain (which I have a very high pain tolerance) when walking and passing. My heart beat would skyrocket when I stood up. This was my first pregnancy and the nurses and doctors said it was normal so I sucked it up. There was one doctor who prescribed me more laxative which eased the pain a bit but when her shift was over I had to convince the next one on shift she needed to give me the dose the previous doctor prescribed because I was in shaking pain if I didnāt have it. They lost the note from the doc in the system. I told them to call her up. I could not sit normal, i still had major pain sitting, walking, holding my baby but it was all normal according to them. After weeks I saw my friends who has also given birth recently able to hold their child and walk with out pain. I had immense pain when walking and especially carrying my baby and walking. Even sitting was painful. I went back to the OBGYN multiple times it took my 3rd visit from a third OB to figure out my hips were out of place. But I still had major pain when passing and had been on stool softener since childbirth⦠months! She also said this was normal. I went to a Gastro doctor at Lake Regional who also found nothing. My Pelvic Floor therapist found I had stitches still in months later which I was told by an OB outside of Lake Regional- is not normal and means something more major is going on. I went back again to my OB and she gave me estrogen cream - which according to my friend who is a doctor said it would do nothing. I used it once - it fixed nothing and the OB and specialist I finally went to in St. Louis agreed that estrogen cream would have done nothing. The stitches then tore a week later when I was working. I gave up on Lake Regional helping me because they werenāt and was referred by a friend to an OBGYN in St. Louis. He looked at me and tried silver nitrate and said if this doesnāt resolve in a week to call this specialist, it didnāt resolve so I called the specialist and he found the problem right away. I underwent reconstructive surgery in September and was fully recovered in November - 11 months after giving birth. Thankful for OBGYNs who know their limit, listen to their patients, and know how to help them, pointing them in the right direction. I am very disappointed in Lake Regionals OBGYN. I heard horror stories going in but thought that maybe it was just an off chance but I am sad to say the bad stories are common. After what happened to me I will never go back to the OBGYN department or have my next child there. I am thankful my child is healthy and normal from what we can tell so far. Iāve heard stories of this not being the case of births from Lake Regional. Their child could not show signs until he could speak and then the brain damage showed but by then itās too long of a gap since when the birth happened the family could do nothing about it. I received no compensation as they did not find any fault...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt normally post reviews on google maps but I had great experience at this ER. Everyone was very friendly and attentive.
On Christmas Eve, my abdomen was hurting for hours and Iāve decided to visit ER. My husband dropped me off outside the door, it was too painful for me to talk and move, so I just sat on the bench outside waiting for him to come back from parking. A staff came out offering help, and helped me with a wheelchair. At the registry desk, I was told there were 6 people came before me, and the longest them have waited was 2 hours. Patients are seen by the severity and the care team inside the door decide who gets to be seen first. With no expectations to be seen anytime soon, we sat down at one corner and just waiting. According to my husband, since my consciousness was suffered by pain, in about 1 hour, we were called and went in to a single room.
Our RN, Chris was above and beyond. He explained things as he was doing them, also very attentive and patient. He was busy moving things in and out and made sure I had everything I needed. While the doctor and anesthetist were talking to me, he was there like a friend helping me with questions, making me feeling a lot better. Another RN, Emma, was very skilled and efficient. She did the least painful IV Iāve ever had and got all my samples in no time.
Before 10pm I was admitted to the ER, and before midnight I was in the hospital room. Within about 2 hours of time, they did IV, bloodwork, CT and COVID test on me. A doctor came by 2 times and confirmed my appendix needed to go. Dr. Shatto, the surgeon came by, explained everything in details, and was patient enough to answer all the questions my husband had. I was quickly admitted in the main hospital and pushed to the operation room. In the OR, all the nurses moved so fast and in sync, I was warped and settled in the blink of an eye. The anesthetist who I believe was Adam, chatted with me while setting things up and before he counted to 1, I went under.
The surgery went less than a hour and luckily they found me a maternity room. It was private, spacious and clean. Before I left the hospital(around 4pm on Christmas), theyāve offered me breakfast and lunch; I had a great care team coming and going checking on my fluids and meds.
On Monday, I came back to take a copy of my medical records. The staff on the phone was super nice and said heād get everything together and we could just do a curbside pick up. I was super impressed by everything at this hospital. Especially all the care members working on Christmas Eve and Christmas, the holiday didnāt affect their kindness and passion. Just as the signs in the parking area said,...
