I had the worst experience at the Menards on W. Main. I normally shop at the Gull road location where I stopped first and was told they were out of stock of leveling sand. They gladly checked stock at the W. Main location who showed 149 bags. So I hopped in the truck and ran over there. I went back to the back of the store to get my invoice for paver block leveling sand, which I told the sales associate at the counter. I go back to the cashiers desk to pay for them and hop in the truck to pull back around to the yard. I get out and look for the item # to match up the right product. I noticed the associate wrote me up for paver base, not paver leveling sand. I then go back inside to where I got my invoice and let them know I need leveling sand not base. They write me another invoice and tell me I have to walk back up front to the cashiers, again. After waiting in line for 15 minutes I final get to the register and the cashier tells me I have to go to guest services to do exchanges. Mind you they are the SAME PRICE!!!! So I proceed to guest service to get their screw up corrected and walk back to the yard outback to finally load my sand. I get back outside and see there are six bags on a skid (I purchased 50 bags). I then go seek help in locating more sand. After waiting 45 minutes they tell me they can not find the missing product. I get an apology "sorry we can't find the missing skid" but no recommendations or attempt to remedy the situation. They check local stock and see that the Battle Creek location has them in stock "you can run over there and get some" so I ask if there is something that they can do on price to make up for the 3 hours I've already invested between the Gull road and W. Main location as well as the hour and a half round trip travel to the battle creek location. The associate tells me sorry he can't discount another locations product. I was furious that there was no attempt to take care of me as a customer. I then had to walk back to the front to guest services for a refund. Then walk all the way back to the yard to get in my truck and leave. You lost business to Lowes and I hope this makes it's way to the associates who obviously do not care about...
Read moreThis location is always clean and has plenty of parking. I love the size and layout of the store. Very open and easy to maneuver. There are plenty of store models to view for easy reference when planning your next home improvement project. The only reason for knocking off 1 star is sometimes it is difficult to find an associate for help and then when you do find someone, it may not be their department so they are not always able to be as help answer any questions.
Edit: I ordered custom entry doors online for store pickup and had a less than stellar experience. I called asking if they could have my order ready since I would be renting a truck and only had 90 minutes. The associate manager declined saying it would be quick when I arrived so it was unnecessary. When I arrived, I drove through the lumbar yard gates and had no idea where to go. There was no signage where online pickup is so I called again since there was only loading bays and yard stock visible. The associate manager said to turn right and drive all the way to the back where you will eventually see the orange overhang. When I pulled up, there were only 3 parking spots, and 2 other vehicles were already there. I went inside and had to wait while the associate pulled up my order on their computer and then more time while they had to put on a harness to drive this lift vehicle to go grab my order. All in all, I was 15 minutes over my timeframe with the rental vehicle costing me an additonal $8 which is disappointing when I called ahead. I would not order again for pickup unless it is something small and would not require a rental cargo van since the staff is not empathetic or willing to accommodate. This store needs to add helpful signage and focus on speed if knowing there is an important deadline. Also, to note this was on a slow Sunday so no reason why they didn't want to accommodate, and the entry doors only come with flimsy cardboard that does not cover the entire door so as the team is loading the doors, the cardboard is shifting making it hard to get them into the vehicle and potentially scuffing...
Read moreMy wife and I had purchased some cellular shades at the Menard's in Three Rivers on our way back from my father's house in Indiana. When we eventually found time to hang them we discovered that one of them was defective. So we went over to the Kalamazoo Menard's one evening to return the bad one. I just want to say that everyone we dealt with there was terrific. I wish I had taken notice of the young lady's name that was working the service center that night because she was super friendly and super efficient. She apologized for the problem (as if it was her fault) and quickly processed the return. Exceptional customer service on her part. Then we headed back to the Blinds Section and found the one we needed but we needed it cut so asked the first gentleman we found if he could help us. He said it was not in his skill set but that he would have Max come right over. Well Max came over promptly and asked the appropriate questions to make sure we got exactly what we needed. He was very kind and accommodating and clearly knew what he was doing because he had our custom blind ready for us in no time. Since we are also looking for an area rug for our dining room that has to be a certain size we asked him if he could help us with that as well. Not surprisingly he could. We walked over to where his computer was and he put in our measurements to see if they had anything that might work. We then spent a few minutes looking at all the choices but didn't find anything suitable. But we weren't disappointed because we were so appreciative of the way Max went about his business. Very professional and customer friendly. He wished us well on our way out, we went to the checkout and paid and headed home. Anyway we just want to thank the young lady at the service counter and Max for all their help. And Menard's for seeing the potential in these two young folks. We'll definitely go back when we start our next home project. ...
