Employees are friendly and helpful. Everything seemed pretty clean. The bathroom even smelled faintly of bleach and was spotless! Prices on everything are amazing and worth the drive. The self-serve popcorn was pretty cool. Since I was looking for reviews on the seats and couldn't find a lot, I'll give some details. They aren't the old style seats from when I last went 20 years ago, but they also aren't the cushy recliners some theaters have. They are the fold down auditorium style seat but much more comfortable and bigger with a nice cushioned pleather material and fold down cup holders. The space between rows is probably the same as it was in the past, and it is not stadium seating like other more expensive theaters. We were lucky not to have anyone sitting directly in front of us. If we did, our view probably would have been like when I was a kid, and since I've been spoiled with the new style theaters, it probably would have bothered me. We also didn't have any seats behind us, which I was glad because I can't stand when someone kicks my seat lol. My husband is 6 ft and a little wider so we'll see what he thinks about the seats when he comes with us the next time. Overall, it was great for the price and wonderful for taking the kids to a movie or one that I would normally just wait to watch at home because I don't want to splurge to see it in theater. I think any major movies that we're really excited about we might still spring for the expensive theater as a treat (like once or twice a year) but for everything else, the value, cleanliness, amenities, and friendly staff can't be beat!!! I can finally afford to take my family to the movies again. Thank you,...
Read moreMy wife and I decided it would be nice to take our granddaughter out to see a movie. First, we noticed there was only one concession window open. It seemed there were enough workers to be able to provide better service, but that wasn't a huge deal. However, we paid for popcorn... which tasted like it was popped days ago. Seriously, we couldn't even finish it.
The movie was pretty good, but when the last scene finished, it went to a black screen and music. We always watch the credits at the end of a movie. And especially, being a sequel, we were interested to see who was involved, etc. We went to tell the manager, who just brushed it off, telling us she would "check it out". Well, we paid for the entire movie. But you could clearly tell she wasn't going to fix it. We weren't going to see the credits. Period. No apology, no nothing.
The final thing we encountered was, when leaving with our 7-year-old granddaughter in the dark, we realized there were ZERO lights in the parking lot. This is not only unsafe, but is also a liability. Had it just been my wife and young grandchild, I would have really been uncomfortable with that arrangement.
Bottom line: we have frequented M-89 for decades. We have always enjoyed the reasonable prices and the good service we've come to expect. Unfortunately, that seems to have become a thing of the past. We will likely choose another venue...
Read moreDecided to take advantage of their theater rental for my wife's birthday. Called the number I needed to ahead of time to reserve a theater and showed up hours before the rest of the theaters would be starting their showings to get our Playstation setup.
The wifi connection seemed to be a touch lagging which made some of my wife's game play a bit rough to get through. Eventually she switched over to YouTube and we ended up watching movie trailers, FNAF theories and Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana music videos on the big screen. She still enjoyed her birthday outing and had a great time.
Standard theater going experience, M-89 Cinema has been a great place to come to see first run, fresh on the screens movies or years. Ticket prices are great and their concession prices for combos are almost half of what you would pay for a large pop alone at one of the big chain theaters.
We always enjoy our date nights out with this place. I have recommended this theater to friends of mine that live in Grand Rapids since you could bring the whole family, get tickets and treats and drinks and still not break...
