Tried hard but craftsmanship was lacking Just doesn’t seem to really know how to finish.
Pros
Fantastic communication Jake is Upbeat positive Wants to try new tasks Offered to fix mistakes Cons
Craftsmanship was shotty Saw mistakes and didn’t fix them
I am giving wicked grain 2 stars because I think the owner, Jake Matz honestly wants his products to be good and I think he tried. I will not take that away from him. The problem I had was the craftsmanship was sub par. I had a unique request of a 4 leaf table and he came up with a great solution to my idea for his first attempt. However, when he attached the leaf brackets he then never pulled them and finished under them and I had different screws on most of the brackets . Then the top of the table wasn’t super smooth and felt like there were specs of saw dust on the table after he finished it. Some parts of the top appeared to be completely unfinished. Then he did not sand the sides of the table completely smooth and told me he saw them after clear coat but decided to leave them and the epoxy he used to fill knots did not always fill all the way to the top leaving low spots.
After I hired a different contractor to refinish it, the contractor showed up to talk to his help and Jake sent me rude messages because I hired someone to do the job right.
I give two stars only because of the way it started and how friendly and responsive he was throughout the whole process and even answered questions about his craftsmanship and offered to fix. But I should not have to have a brand new table refinished and I did not trust him...
Read moreI ordered the modern farmhouse table from Etsy in May. Although the table was beautiful in the picture, upon arrival it has turned out to be extremely high maintenance and non functional. The table warped which has caused it to sit uneven on the floor and rock. It also cracked at the points of where the end pieces are attached which worsened when attempts to tighten the table were made per the advice of the seller. The end pieces are longer than the body of the table therefore you can see where the wood is not stained. There is also visible wood glue down the seams of the table which separated to about 1 cm with the warping. The seller did give advice on how to improve acclimation (orange oil, beeswax treatment, tightening the planks, humidifier) which were all utilized to the full extent but ultimately they could not solve the major problems and there was no option for returns per their policy. Ultimately the intentions were pure but I am extremely disappointed in...
Read moreMy family ordered an outdoor dining table made from aged/rustic wood. It arrived with a bad creosote smell (like railroad ties) that did not go away after unpacking. Contacted the seller to get information on how to get rid of the smell. He responded various times in a defensive argumentative manner, stating that he had never had that happen before. He suggested essential oils and a few other treatments, which we tried and did not help. After researching, we''ve discovered that a) creosote smell does not dissipate and b) it can have harmful health effects. The seller refused any liability in this issue and would not honor a refund or replacement. After two months of messaging and the Etsy window to dispute closed, his solution was for ME to resell it on Craigslist. Sadly, because of the creosote smell, we cannot even eat on the table. Very poor...
