Powerhouse Gym Palatine — Local services in Palatine Township

I went to this gym to view the facility, equipment and get a feel for the place. I liked it and the equipment. I wanted to try the place for a month so the fee for one month would be $49.99. The small girl (Asian) who worked the desk and gave me the tour then told me there is also a $79.99 enrollment fee. I told her I didn’t want to pay this fee for just the one month trial. Her reply was “you don’t have any money? “ I found this question to be extremely insulting and judgmental. I guess the Omega Seamaster watch on my wrist didn’t help her (LOL). This gym was not the place for me and I told her that she was very insulting and left. Maybe she walks into a car dealership and pays the sticker price because I sure do not . Fees are sometimes negotiable but being condescending and rude is not acceptable behavior to me, in a service oriented environment. I walked. Would not recommend 😕

UPDATE: Received a phone call from the owner Lonnie. Lonnie was apologetic and offered me a one month trial. I went to the gym and met Lonnie and had a conversation about what occurred and I ended up joining the gym. The gym is kept extremely clean and the gym contains gym training equipment not fitness equipment. It’s small in size but packed with quality equipment. The other staff members including Lonnie are extremely friendly and helpful. I am glad I went and spoke with the owner.

Update Have been going to this guy for awhile now. The equipment is good and well maintained. The staff are helpful and friendly especially Kynli....

Husband and I joined Powerhouse about 6 weeks ago. We come 4-5 days per week at vary random times (5am, lunchtime, early afternoon, trying to be out the door by 6pm at the latest). We haven’t found that it’s difficult to get a workout in, not overly crowded and most members are pretty good about not monopolizing equipment and “working in”.

For the most part, I’d say the clientele is there to get a good workout in, and move on with their day. I haven’t seen tripods or cameras setup like you see at big box gyms lately.

The gym is so clean. Kaylee and the staff are constantly cleaning, vacuuming, wiping down equipment. I’ve never seen anything like it at a gym. The staff that works there also seem to really love what they do, Kaylee said to me recently “I just love it here” which is great to hear.

Top notch equipment! I follow a bodybuilding program and every machine my trainer recommends has been available to use at PH.

We had a few key fob issues early on, and the management was very attentive in getting it fixed so we would have no issues with the front door.

I love trying new gyms and seeing new equipment. When I saw this new gym, I really wanted to check it out since there hasn't been a powerhouse gym in the area for years. I was not disappointed. Upon entering, Lonnie and Kaylee were working and both were friendly and accommodating. They were very knowledgeable and showed me around the gym and all equipment available. They made me feel right at home and I did not hesitate to jump right in after the sign up process. Everything was really clean and the layout was really well thought out. They had a ton of machines that I have never seen in any other commercial gym, even boutique gyms. I felt like a kid in a candy store trying out all the new equipment. The gym goers were all there to get work done and most people seemed to know gym etiquette which is hard to find these days.(No filming in the middle of crowded areas, re-racking weights, minding your time on each machine, etc.) It was a great atmosphere and I got an amazing workout in.
