2020 Edit: After seeing a pretty baseless claim in another recent review (9-24-2020) about the shopâs treatment of a customer, I can honestly say from first hand experience running a local collectors group, of over 1000 members of all races, genders, and orientations, that has done countless events with the store, there has never been a question of Randy and CCâs equal treatment of anyone that does business with them. Itâs a shame in todayâs world that someone would claim otherwise. Collectorâs Corner is for EVERYONE!
2019: I have been a customer at Collectorâs Corner for years now. I work midnights and still take time out of my schedule to make my weekly trips and pick up my subscription box that is always filled with my weekly reads!
Collectorâs Corner does a fantastic job of coordinating community events that are for all walks of life to include the most diehard fan to families looking to fulfill their childâs imagination! They run weekly sales ranging from 20% to 80% off at times ALL items in the store and you get 10% off everything as a member of their free loyalties club. This is one of the best shops in the state for a reason.
Reason for the review:
I took my entire family, 4 nephews (age range of 2 to 16) and my daughter (2) to CCâs FCBD yesterday for the first time and had an absolute blast! Seeing my daughter and nephews interacting with the slew of cosplayers dressed as superheroes, clutching a big stack of free comic books, and the older ones digging through bronze and silver age dollar bins for books they want to read is something you just donât get elsewhere.
Iâve read people complaining about not getting âfreeâ stuff given away to extremely loyal customers camping out at the FCBD event. I can attest that these people have camped out for years (long before I started shopping here), theyâre PAYING customer 365 days a year and take the time to dedicate themselves to the stores giveaways. If those complaining want to get these giveaways they need to get there first, not cry on a google review about it! CC gave away 25 different FCBD books, pizza, balloon animals, stickers, and up to 20 free back issues behind the store yesterday. If youâre worried about not getting the âfreeâ giveaways as a PAYING customer, you actually didnât need to spend any money yesterday to walk away with a ton of comics, that was your choice!
The negative reviews and the one in particular about FCBD are baseless. As someone that comes in weekly, is greeted with nothing but hospitality and sifts through all their products, this is one of the best Comic and Toy shops in Maryland and I have a close relationship with just about all of them due...
Read moreUPDATE =2 MONTHS A staff member now greets and ASKS IF THEY CAN HELP FIND ANYTHING every time without any hint of reluctance!! The thinnest (best description I can think of) gentleman is especially enthusiastic, I find him very pleasant and knowledgeable.
Sundays are the best day for deals as they have nearly the whole store on different sales that beat EVERY store in Baltimore metro area but every day of the week is well worth the trip even if it's long. Their selection is heavenly across the board and for those of us who can't afford to buy trades at msrp, you can rent them! I havent rented though because their healthy amount of used trades are 50% of EVERY DAY! I like to keep the books I read or else I would rent frequently. Their dollar bins have so many good titles from every publisher that looking through them all takes hours! So why 3 stars? I'm that customer at any business that only comes for the deals. I'd love to kick them better profits on my purchases (seriously, I'm not a sarcastic person) but I make an embarrassing hourly wage so I'm at the bottom of their profit per customer. I'm also the needy guy with the long list of books I'm searching for since I can only buy them on sale. So making headway on it is a slow endeavor but I find more there than at any competitor by a staggering margin. The problem is that I'm in there for literal hours because they offer no help searching, I have gotten pointed in the right direction by every staff member I've asked so I've given up asking. Because being pointed in the right direction barely helps finding titles due to their dizzying inventory. My allotted spending money could be found so much faster with help getting to the titles (I can handle looking through the numbers within the titles) so I just leaf through the dollar bins for hours after getting overwhelmed in the rest of the store so I feel like I'm in the way as I feverishly spend embarrassing amounts of time in those AMAZING, never ending dollar bins. BUT I FIND SCORES OF BOOKS IN THERE SO I'LL...
Read moreI visited Collectors Corner for the first time back in 2002 or 2003 and it set off a chain of events that changed the comic book industry for many years and beyond.
I got a gift certificate for Christmas from my parents for the shop. I hadn't read comics in years, but they remembered I loved comics as a kid. When I went in, the owner told me about a new series called Ultimate X-Men and that I should check it out. I asked if he had the single issues, but they were pricey and he recommended I buy the graphic novel instead. I hadn't read in graphic novel format before, I wasn't aware comics were like that. I bought it and read it on a plane back to Orlando where I lived. I loved it. I loved it so much, I found a local comic shop in Orlando and started to go regularly.
A few years later, I began doing some freelance marketing for that shop and business started booming, a little because of my efforts, but also the shop was great and comics had hit a new golden age with amazing writers telling awesome stories. I asked that shop owner if I could become his business partner and he agreed and that shop became "A Comic Shop" and for 5 solid years we pushed the comic industry forward in so many ways.
If it wasn't for Randy (Owner) handing me that graphic novel of Ultimate X-Men, so much would be different in the comic industry today, from Free Comic Book Day to how retailers work together with publishers and creators to so much more.
My review of Collectors Corner is, it's the best shop in the world. It's the place where a guy like me that hadn't read comics in years fell in love again with the medium. It's where you'll find your favorite stories. It's where you'll meet your tribe of fellow fans. It's where you'll be connected to an amazing world of heroes and stories of life, hope, and love.
Collectors Corner isn't just a comic shop, it's the best comic shop and you should go there and find a story that could change the rest of your life and possibly the entire...
