I am extremely disappointed with my recent shopping experience at Sky international market. I spent over $250 only to come home and find that raw meat, yogurt, and baked pies were all thrown into the same bag. The meat juices and yogurt's liquid soaked into the pies' paper bag completely unacceptable and unsafe.

It’s basic food safety that raw meat should NEVER EVER be bagged with ready-to-eat items due to the risk of contamination with Salmonella or E. coli. Yogurt should also be properly bagged to prevent it from opening during transport. I ended up losing money on nine baked pies and yogurt because of careless bagging.

To make matters worse, when I called the store to address the issue, there was no supervisor available. I was only able to speak with a cashier (Mariam), who was unable to provide any help!

This kind of negligence not only wastes customers’ time and money but also jeopardizes customers’ health. I expected far better from a store where I spend a significant amount of money. Very disappointed and will be reconsidering where I shop in the future.

Edit/Update: The next day, the owner, Dena, personally called me to apologize for what happened. She was very polite and professional, and she explained that it was likely a new employee who is still learning. She also reassured me that their staff are trained on how to properly pack raw meat, leaky items, and glass items.

Mistakes can happen anywhere, but what really stood out to me was how kindly and respectfully Dena handled the situation. She acknowledged the mistake, agreed it was wrong, and took responsibility. I’ve been a customer of Sky International Market for some time, but unfortunately, this will be my last visit. Four days ago, I purchased a jar of olives from their store, only to find that they were extremely old and clearly past their prime. Sadly, this wasn’t the first time it happened. About six weeks ago, I bought a different brand of olives from them and had the same issue—very old product—but I let it go and didn’t return them. This time, I decided to bring the jar back with the receipt, hoping for a refund or at least some acknowledgment of the issue. Unfortunately, the staff refused to refund me. Amazing store ! It’s definitely a “Mediterranean” store. I am white as a sheet of paper. I went in and everyone was so friendly and ready to answer any questions I had. The store itself was very clean and well organized. I purchased delicious Naan bread, guava juice, and fresh produce at an amazing price. They also had a butcher counter inside the store with some good looking cuts and variety of meat. Lots of halaal products. This is some food I made with ingredients from this wonderful store, super easy to make and tasty.
