I would like to be reimbursed the $68.06 in fees I was charged. I was not made aware that the gym was reopening. My local Planet Fitness in Morris Plains, NJ claims I was sent an email notification but I cannot locate it (I checked junk mail as well. The last communication I received was on 4/13/20 entitled "A message from Fitness Planet CEO Chris Rondeau" and it had nothing to do with reopening.) I would have cancelled my membership if I had known because I cannot take a risk with COVID as my son and I live with my parents who are senior citizens who have pre-existing conditions.
My local gym could not provide evidence that I had been notified about the gymās reopening. The gym manager Chris replied, "There is no proof that we can provide showing we sent you an email. The email that came from corporate used the same email we have on file, so you should have gotten the email."
I requested the contact info from Chris for corporate several times over email but I was ignored. When I called to request it, I was told by the Assistant Manager that āwe canāt give out that information.ā
So my next attempt was to go into the gym in person. I spoke to Chris and asked who makes these decisions and he told me the Regional Manager. I asked to speak to him and again, I was told I cannot have his contact info. It has been weeks and I have followed up several times but the Regional Manager has not called me back.
Lastly, the Morris Plains location told me I could contact corporate through the planet fitness website and when I did that I received an email saying I āIf you have questions about billing or a charge on your account, and are looking for a refund, please contact the staff or management at your home club location.ā Same is true of the Facebook page. But the Morris Plains location has ignored me, refused to call me back and refused to share information.
This is the wrong way to treat people. I feel Planet Fitness is not doing the right thing during COVID. Just starting to charge me without giving me a chance to make a decision about my membership during a time when people are dying due to a pandemic that easily spreads person to person in a place where people share equipment is just wrong. (They will reply probably reply with their standard response about how theyāre handling covid instead of answering my specific refund request. Theyāre will also talk about the refund policy but the point is I was never made aware of the reopening to cancel).

My husband, Jonathan is my guest that I bring with me for support as I am struggling with several health issues and need to exercise as often as I can so it helps to have him with me. We are both very familiar with the staff there especially William who used to work the overnights and I'd come in after work and talk to him about my struggles. On this day however, I checked in as usual using both my code and the guest pass code while my husband was not too far behind locking our car door. There seemed to have been some sort of staff meeting at the front desk so no one was facing front to acknowledge that I had checked us both in. As I proceeded to get ready to work out on the bike machine I looked to see if my husband was around and that's when I noticed Michelle put her hands on him as he was approaching me while rushing to get in front of him to stop him. I remember being in complete shock while I watched my husband pointing in my direction but she never looked back to acknowledge who I was. At that moment I was very concerned and approached the two of them and asked if everything was okay. My husband was so upset he just walked away while Michelle was trying to explain that he didn't check himself in. Her approach was very aggressive towards my husband who never once entered the gym without me because he is not a member but a guest of mine and I explained this to her. She was convinced that she sees hundreds of guests and couldn't register that he was a familiar face. So I told the front desk guy around 4am today March 27, 2025 that the handles are smacking into each other well before I reach full extension, he said he noticed that too and couldn't use it either. I told him the handles, both assemblies, are assembled wrong with their spacers causing the handles to hit like that. He noted it, great!!
So when his next shift front desk guy and/or possibly manager or equipment assembler came in, he brought him right over to the supine machine and virtually word for word told the guy why it's messed up....well, I heard the entire thing and that person told him "you're only supposed to use 1 arm at a time, no matter what it's going to hit together when they go up......" I just shook my head and went back to my workout, now I've researched the equipment, watched countless videos of others in Planet Fitness' using this new equipment who are my length in arms and NOT 1 VIDEO SHOWS ANY HANDLES HITTING TOGETHER AND EVERY VIDEO IS BOTH ARMS TOGETHER NOT 1 AT A TIME.
When I heard him say that I wanted to tell them "you really think they designed such a machine to be used ONLY 1 arm at a time instead of it being an 'option' to do vs using both?"
I hope management sees this review and corrects the assembly error cause trust me, nobody who is not short with very short arms are going to be using this machine because of the mistake by the...
