Straight & Narrow — Local services in Paterson

Straight & Narrow is not perfect, but neither is anyone. They have they're flaws and imperfections just like I do. If the place was absolutely perfect people would find something to complain about. It's just how it goes. I had a warm bed, hot food, and although the groups were limited, it was my choice to attend more than I was scheduled to go to. So that's what I did. People complained about group time and then complained about down time because they were bored.. I guess it's a journey that is decided individually. I opted to go to every group everyday and every opportunity I had I would volunteer for things to do to help. I was rarely bored and always looked forward to the weekdays rather than weekends because I liked the groups. They didn't keep me longer than originally discussed when I arrived as others were saying. But then again, maybe others didn't participate to their potential or maybe others didn't take the initiative to show their counselors what their intentions were. Some people want to get better and some people are court ordered to be there. The. Some, like me, were court ordered but wanted to get better. I completed a relapse prevention plan to present to my counselor and constantly asked her for more work books to better myself so she knew my intention was authentic. I guess I just felt that it was important for me to clarify my experience there because nobody pointed out anything positive, here's something. THE PLACE GAVE YOU ANOTHER CHANCE AT LIFE, IF YOU DONT TAKE IT AND IMMERSE YOURSELF INTO YOUR RECOVERY, YOUR DOOMED TO REPEAT HISTORY. The only shot we have is inside of us, the four walls doesn't mean a whole lot. it's your personal motivation.. Ask yourself what you want more and why. Thank you straight & narrow for the opportunity to take advantage of your program and I couldn't be more pleased with the majority of the staff. My counselor, Emily, was a super helpful person and important role in my early recovery. She challenged my answers, which I respect, and she also made me be accountable for my own recovery. She Cares, that's ultimately how I feel about her and I can't thank her enough. Staff is very unprofessional and rude. I don't recommend this place to anyone. My sister was placed there through drug court and she walked out and hasn't been seen since as of 7/20/15. No family or emergency contact were contacted. They never filed a missing persons report. My other sister and myself are from the Jersey shore so we drove an hour and a half to get there, searched all over Paterson for her tried to go to straight and narrow for any information or help they could possibly give us and were told that we need to leave they don't have to tell us anything, wouldn't even give us the time of day to explain our story. They didn't try to lead us to taking the right steps of trying to get help they just couldn't be bothered.we're searching for our little sister who has no money no phone has nothing and it was like oh well it's not their problem. Please if you have someone you care about do not send them here. Especially if they have a drug problem it's located in drug central they can walk out go to the corner and find drugs. I was at straight and narrow earlier this year and all I can say is I would rather be under a bridge. The staff is a joke, my counselor Dominic should definitely consider another profession. They keep you there as long as possible I was short term and ended up doing four months “waiting for a halfway” I left went to turning point and got into a halfway house within 28 days. They have no consideration for the clients, embarrass and belittle them. Nice everywhere!!!! The residential staff are straight from the hood and talk to you like an animal. There are some staff (Mitch, Terell, Tyrell and Earl) who genuinely care and treat you with respect but overall the treat u like garbage . The groups are a joke , they go through counselors like water , this place should be condemned and shut down due to its delapitating structure .
