I booked an Amtrak Vacation from Chicago to the Grand Canyon in June 2025 for August 2025. Having traveled to Miami via Amtrak in a roomette and Sleeper, and having had a mixed experience, I chose Coach. And, I enjoy train rides, so I went from Daniel Moynihan station to Chicago Union station. The Lakeshore Limited was packed. The restrooms had soap, water, toilet seat covers and paper towels. The cafe has an assortment of everything and remember, you are on a train. For a more elegant experience, you would have to book a sleeper or roomette. But… the price difference was two thousand, which was ridiculous. So, you spend $5.50 on a hebrew national hot dog and use the mustard and relish!! This train was delayed and the although I received several messages on the app, it is without a doubt frustrating. Mechanical issues were sited; why? If you inspect a train, why is it having mechanical issues? The next train was from Chicago to Flagstaff, bus from flagstaff to Williams. The Southwest Chief was my favorite train as it is a double and has the Panoramic car, which all trains should have. A car to sit and relax and have a snack and chill; large clean windows to look out of. The train staff was courteous and entertaining; However, we also had delays; 2 hours. Restrooms on the Chief had larger sinks for washing, but the restrooms are as old as the trains themselves. Once at the Grand Canyon and at Williams, the vacation got 5 stars. I would definitely go on vacation again, and will probably spend the money on a sleeper or roomette. I look forward to a modernized Amtrak ride and to fellow passengers that flush the toilet. I took pictures from Mohave point; Bright Angel and...
