I accidentally stumbled upon Mysore Yoga Philadelphia over a year ago. Was trying to find a yoga studio in Philadelphia after my pandemic-YouTube-yoga in living room situation. Definitely had no idea what ashtanga yoga was.
But, it met me where I was - and it turned out to be exactly what I needed!! I have deep gratitude for the space that Meghan creates and the guidance that she offers.
The shala (studio) always has a warm and inviting energy. Meghan’s instructions are clear and easy to understand. Questions are met with both engagement and knowledgeable answers. Physical adjustments are firm yet gentle with ongoing check-ins and consent.
Mysore Yoga Philadelphia provides structure in the discipline and tradition of Ashtanga, but also makes it accessible too. Meghan will work with you when it comes to modifications and figuring out sequence. Studio hours are not at the crack of dawn, to accommodate those who need later start times. You’ll never be pushed into practicing 6 days a week (per tradition) or shamed for not coming in. I was able to develop a consistent home practice while sporadically showing up to class when I could.
Mysore Yoga Philadelphia also offers yoga as more than just asana practice. Students are invited to stay for chanting and pranayama after Led Primary on Sundays. Meghan also brings in guest speakers and teachers for yoga, sutra philosophy, and breathing workshops.
The skill level here is varied, with both new and experienced students. I’d say that this particular yoga community in South Philadelphia is very welcoming and that most of us are approachable and don’t take ourselves too seriously. Worth giving a try if you’re at...

If you’re researching yoga places because you’re thinking about getting into yoga, go for it. You’ll start seeing benefits right away: flexibility, strength, balance. I showed up a few months ago knowing nothing about yoga. The teachers are happy to help any skill level and tailor their instruction accordingly.
The Mysore class format means you show up when you want to and work at your own pace. Teachers engage with individuals to provide instruction and assistance.
If you’re researching yoga places because you’re experienced and looking for somewhere to practice, I think the is the place for you too. The teachers are very knowledgeable in not just the poses, but ways to safely assist students with each one. They’re connected to the Ashtanga community and collaborate with other teachers to share and learn...
Read moreI had the privilege of attending an Ashtanga weekend workshop with Harmony Slater at Mysore Yoga Philadelphia, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish! Meghan and Sarah are exceptional hosts who truly understand what it means to build community. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel welcomed and at home.
Their attention to detail and care for their students really stood out! They were warm, accommodating, and went above and beyond by partnering with local businesses to provide coupons for attendees. It's clear they're invested not just in the yoga community, but in the broader Philadelphia community as well. The atmosphere they've created at the shala is special, welcoming, supportive, and authentic. Everyone I met was kind and friendly, which speaks volumes about the culture Meghan and Sarah have cultivated.
I'm already looking forward to...
