My first class with Unity was the Friday evening Candlelight Flow. I was a bit nervous because I never know what I will get with a new studio and I haven't practiced in about a year. This class was touted as a "perfect way to unwind after a busy day" and with the room heated to 75 degrees, it definitely made for a comfortable environment.
Because it was Manayunk on a Friday night, I had trouble finding parking and ended up arriving 2 minutes before class time instead of the requested 15. Melanie greeted me warmly and was very understanding. She showed me where I could store my bag and explained that the studio is trauma-informed meaning they have a card you face up or down next to your mat depending on whether you would like an on-hand assist. This was nice because there are times during class where I would like an assist and other times when I would not. I can simply flip the card throughout the class (as opposed to committing to one or another at the beginning).
The candles were lovely and it wasn't so dark that I couldn't see what I was doing. They have a soft padded floor which was very easy on the knees and helped keep the room warm. The flow moved quickly and there were times when I needed to make adjustments, but I never felt judged or pushed. I could go at my own pace and comfort level which made for a genuinely relaxing experience.
Overall, the Candlelight Flow lived up to its name! Melanie was a lovely instructor, explaining the moves well (never assuming I already knew them) which is what I expect for an all levels class. I've never tried a hot yoga class but I may have to after...
Read moreI went to this yoga studio for a year and originally gave them a 5 star review but I recently realized that the 10 Class Packages I had been purchasing expired after 60 days so I had paid for some classes I never got to take. Their website and third party service used to process payment are not user friendly and it was not clear that these class packs expired and it just prompts you to buy more when they do. I reached out to the owner about this and she was dismissive at first and eventually just stopped responding. Terrible customer service and I’m extremely disappointed. The teachers I’ve had were great but beware of their bad website and the fine print because they have strict expiration and no refund policies with no remorse for customers who...
Read moreI have been going to Unity in Chesnut Hill now for a few months, and I really love it. First, as middle aged guy, starting yoga seemed daunting and I struggled to find a place where I'd feel comfortable as a newbie. Searching the internet and Reddit for a studio proved more difficult than I realized as most studios do not lay out a program from beginner to advanced
Luckily, Unity does exactly that! They have a Foundation class and then once complete, you can start the next level and keep progressing.
I have been been practicing my yoga with Sammie and she has been so helpful. She takes her time with you and explains whats happening, but also keeps the flow going so you can keep learning.
If you are on the fence about stating yoga, this...
