Food City — Local services in Phoenix

This must be one of the oldest Food City stores in Phoenix. Located on the S.W. corner of 27th Ave.& Van Buren St, .it's a small store by today's standards, but I recall when all grocery stores were about this size. As a result the store appears cluttered but this is because every bit of useable space is being utilized. This is a well stocked store. Almost everything that can be found in the other stores can be found here, albeit in smaller quantities. This particular Food City was awesome. It took me back to the days when things weren't so big box stores. It was just like a friendly neighborhood market like when I was a kid. I was working on a cell phone tower behind it and I needed water and Ice. They not only had water and ice, thay had the big bags (16 lbs) that nobody seems to carry. And the price was about the same as a small 7lb bag that you get anywhere else. The store was clean, the shelves were fully stocked and the employees were friendly. It's an old building and smaller than most food city's, got honked as as I almoat missed it but needed a quick stop as i was heading to deliver some items for my granddaughter. I was wandering around until a nice young man asked if he could help me, which he did, he was very courteous with a sense of humor that i didnt expect but welcomed. i grabbed the few items I needed and the cashier was very friendly as well, it would probably be tough to do all of my grocery shopping here but for a quick stop, I would definitely visit again...
